The Leopard Link
Lovejoy High School - Newsletter - August 8, 2023
Message from Dr. Zambiasi
Lovejoy High School Students and Families,
We can't wait to see over 1,600 Leopards at Lovejoy HS tomorrow! The 2023-2024 school year is going to be an amazing experience for all of our LHS stakeholders and the excitement around our building today is second to none. With that said, please see below for some important reminders and resources to review before our first day to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.
Schedules
Please check over your student schedule one last time at 8AM on 8.9.23. While student schedules have been released, our counselors continue to balance class sizes, and there could be some small changes occurring over the next 24 hours. Next, please make sure you check over your schedule and identify your 4th period class. Once you locate your teacher for your 4th period class on your schedule, please click on the links below to ensure you know what time you'll be eating lunch and whether you are assigned A, B, or C Lunch.
Lastly, another area to be sure to review on your schedule is your Leopard Time classroom and teacher. Leopard Time occurs between 2:15 and 2:45 each day (between 6th and 7th period) and the teacher/classroom on your schedule is known as your Homeroom Leopard Time. Students will report to their Homeroom Leopard Time for the first 2 weeks of school. During this time you will get to know your teacher, class, and go over basic school rules/policies. Towards the end of the first two weeks, we will teach each student the rules of how we normally run LHS Leopard Time (this is our academic/flex period), and our first official day for that structure will be 8.28.23. In addition to training our students regarding Leopard Time, we will be sending out the training presentation to all parents and families in the Leopard Link over the next few weeks.
Seniors
The Class of 2024 is invited to the LHS Senior Breakfast on Wednesday, August 9th from 8:30 AM - 9:15 AM in the Auxiliary Gym. The Senior Booster Club has planned photo ops and a continental breakfast for you. Parents, the breakfast is a treat just for our senior students, but please join us in the high school courtyard for the LHS Senior Walk at 9:25 AM. Bring your cameras, posters and noise makers for this fun and memorable event.
Senior Signs
Students and Parents who purchased a yard sign earlier this summer will pick up in the Courtyard at the high school on 8.9.23 during the LHS Senior Walk.

LHS ARRIVAL/LUNCH/DISMISSAL AND VISITOR PROCEDURES
Arrival Procedures
LHS will open at 8:00 am. Only the main front entrance and back courtyard entrance will be unlocked at this time; all other exterior doors will remain locked throughout the school day. The courtyard doors will lock promptly at 8:40 am. Students entering through the courtyard doors after 8:40 am, will need to press the buzzer to be let in. The main front entrance will continue to be monitored for students, parents and visitors throughout the day.
Certain areas of the school will be accessible to students before 8:00 am for specific purposes. If students are participating in activities outside of the normal school day (athletics, band, tutorials, retesting), entrance to the building must be supervised by a staff member. Students must check with their teacher, coach and/or sponsor ahead of time to determine what supervised door to enter through in the morning. Any student arriving late to these activities will be asked to enter the campus using the main front entrance or back courtyard entrance at 8:00 am.
Students are required to remain in the area where their activity is scheduled to take place. Unless the teacher, coach and/or sponsor overseeing the morning activity gives permission, a student will not be permitted to go to another area of the building or campus.
Students, who are not participating in activities outside of the normal school day (athletics, band, tutorials, retesting) will remain in the cafeteria until dismissed at 8:35 am.
Dismissal Procedures
Students will be dismissed from school at 4:25 pm by their classroom teacher. Unless students are attending tutorials, retest and/or participating in a supervised after school activity, students must leave the campus immediately. Once students leave the building, they will not be allowed to reenter the building without the permission from a school administrator.
Students are required to remain in the area where their activity is scheduled to take place. Unless the teacher, coach and/or sponsor overseeing the afternoon activity gives permission, a student will not be permitted to go to another area of the building.
Traffic Patterns
Students, parents and guests must follow and observe all traffic rules, at all times. To maintain the highest level of student safety, adjustments have been made to our traffic pattern for the 23-24 school year. Please see the illustration below.
Closed Campus
LHS is a closed campus. Students are not permitted off campus at any time unless a parent/guardian provides a written letter or email request to the attendance office in advance. Attendance personnel will verify all written parent requests, and students will then be called to the attendance office to sign out. Violations of this expectation will be subject to truancy and/or other disciplinary consequences.
Lunch Procedures
Students may not eat in the restrooms, locker rooms, hallways, classrooms or their vehicles. LHS will only accept lunch deliveries from parents and food delivery services between 10:45 am - 12:30 pm. Lunch items must be dropped off in the main front entrance, using the security pass-through shelves. Students will only be able to collect their lunch during their lunch period, by visiting the foyer and collecting their lunch from the designated area. Students will not be able to pick up food deliveries at any other time and/or location other than the approved time window.
School staff are not responsible for misplaced or stolen lunches. Lunch deliveries that arrive late, will not extend the lunch period for any student. Food delivery service employees will not be permitted to enter the building for any reason and any issues that arise from the delivery will not be the responsibility of the school.
Afterschool/weekend activities
Certain areas of the school will be accessible to students, parents, volunteers and visitors for specific purposes only. If students, parents, volunteers and/or visitors are participating or observing activities outside of the normal school day (performances, events, practices, etc.), entrance to the building must be supervised by a teacher, coach, advisor, sponsor and/or a designated LHS staff member. These designated staff members will communicate to students, parents, volunteers and visitors regarding the (1) purpose of the event, (2) start/end times, (3) event location and (4) entrance/exit door location. Students, parents, volunteers and visitors arriving late to these activities may experience delays in entering the event or may not be permitted to enter the building.
Students, parents, volunteers and visitors are required to remain in the area where their activity is scheduled to take place. Unless the teacher, coach, advisor, sponsor and/or a designated LHS staff member overseeing the activities gives permission, students, parents, volunteers and visitors will not be permitted to go to another area of the building or campus.
Campus Visitors
It is imperative to the safety and security of the campus that staff and students do not open exterior campus doors. Parents and others are welcome to visit district schools, however, all visitors must first report to the main office and comply with all applicable district policies and procedures to ensure the safety of those within the school and to avoid disruption of instructional time.
All visitors should be prepared to show identification and must enter through the main front entrance and report to the receptionist to sign in and obtain a visitor’s badge. Visitor badges must be visible during the entire duration of the campus visit. Individuals may visit classrooms during instructional time only with approval of the principal and teacher. Visitors may not interfere with instruction or disrupt the normal school environment.
All visitors are expected to demonstrate the highest standards of courtesy and conduct. Disruptive behavior will not be permitted.
