Spanish - ¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!
We welcome you to the high school Spanish program. In Spanish classes this year we will immerse ourselves in the Spanish language and culture by investigating various thematic units. The high school offers Spanish I, II, III, IV, and AP Spanish. At all levels we will read, write, listen, and speak in the target language. We encourage students to experience Spanish language and culture firsthand as much as possible. Last year we traveled to Main Street Café during our restaurant unit to practice ordering in Spanish in a restaurant setting and traveled to the Folk Fair in Milwaukee to experience cultures from around the world. Spanish classes also took a trip to the Overture Center to see the Ballet Folklórico dancers and the National Geographic presentation I Bought a Rainforest to learn more about culture and history. We cannot wait to see what this year has in store! ~Sra. Collins & Sra. Teske
Music
The EHS choirs will have their first concert of the school year on November 5, featuring multi-cultural and world music. Students have been learning about cultures around the world along with the pieces of music they are studying.
The music department is kicking off it's annual cheesecake fundraiser! The sale starts Oct. 2nd and ends Oct. 16th. All order forms and money should be turned in by 3:05 P.M. on October 16 to either Mrs. Leahy or Miss Rasmussen. Cheesecakes will be delivered on October 28 and should be picked up between 3:05-4:05 P.M that afternoon. We are also in need of a few parent volunteers to help sort the cheesecake order on the afternoon of October 28. Monies for the fundraiser will be going towards the Madrigal Dinner, field trips and supplies needed for the music department.
Agriscience
The Agriscience Department has been very busy in the month of September. The agriculture program has finally settled into our new and improved classroom spaces! In Ms. Vance's 3 sections of Vet Science students have been hard at work learning about safety and terminology used within the vet medicine field and are eager to start learning how and to perform physical exams on some of our small animals in the classroom! Exploring Agriculture Industries is just starting to wrap up the Wisconsin products unit. Greenhouse I just finished learning about the parts of plants and will soon be germinating seeds! Mr. Kvalheim has been having a great time settling into his new space after it was painted, floors were waxed, and new furniture was moved in. Three sections of Wildlife, Fish, and Natural Resource classes have been focused on the history of conservation and are excited to jump into the aquaculture, fish, and water resource units in the coming weeks. We’re really excited to have the opportunity to work with Kyle Allen in stocking Lake Leota with fish! The Leadership course has been exploring communication, leadership styles and historical thinkers including Plato, Aristotle, Lao-Tzu, Tolstoy, Gandhi, and W.E.B. Du Bois to name a few.
The Evansville FFA has had an awesome month so far and is looking forward to a handful of amazing events coming up in October. The FFA Officers served breakfast to the school district staff on August 27th. We had our first FFA meeting on September 16th with treats and a great activity. The FFA is a student led organization that focuses on premier leadership, personal growth, and career success in agriculture. Any student enrolled in an agriculture course is a member and students that are interested can join and become active FFA members. We took students to the Wisconsin FFA Sectional Leadership Workshop held at Parkview High School and had a blast developing communication and leadership skills. 11 students competed at the River Ridge Career Development Events near Prairie Du Chien on Thursday, September 26. We had two livestock evaluation teams and a dairy cattle evaluation team. We are looking forward to receiving results! On Tuesday, October 1st the Evansville FFA will be attending the World Dairy Expo held in Madison, WI. We will have teams competing in Dairy Judging, Dairy Products and Milk Quality Evaluation, and Forage Analysis and Evaluation. We will also have students exploring different Ag related careers. Our next FFA meeting is on Monday October 21st at 7pm in the Agriscience rooms.
English
The English Department and District LMC Coordinator Abby Beyerl are excited to announce an upcoming field trip for English 9 students to the Eager Free Public Library on October 2nd and 3rd. Students will take a tour of the library and the new Teen Space, as well as learn about the many resources the library has to offer. They also have the opportunity to get a new library card (at no charge), get fines forgiven (up to $11), reset their library accounts (if applicable), and check out books!
As part of this class field trip, Eager Free has graciously offered to reinstate library cards if fines are owed. Up to $11 will be forgiven to reactivate library cards. If fines are over this limit, they will remove $11, and to finish reactivation students will have to either pay the balance or follow up with one of three fine forgiveness options, which will be reviewed the day of the field trip.
We hope to schedule similar visits for the other English classes in the near future.
Tech Ed
The Technology Education renovation is winding down. The CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) Lab is finished and fully functional. Thanks to Larry Martin and Griffin Hicks for their extra effort, we were able to get the CAD Lab up and running sooner than expected. The Fabrication Lab (located next the CAD Lab) is operational. New equipment and furniture have filtered in throughout the first weeks of the new school year and are being integrated into the curriculum. The Clean Classroom is furnished with student workstations and tables for collaborative work time. Work continues on the new welding facilities. Work also is in progress for the new Manufacturing Lab. These facilities are scheduled for completion by the first part of October. We are excited for the new facilities and look forward to the challenges and opportunities that new space will provide.
Art
Mr. Riel and Ms. Miller’s art classes are well underway working on several big art projects. Congratulations to Jerilyn Laursen and Abigail Eftemoff on being selected to represent EHS in the Rock Valley Traveling Art Show. EHS will host the art show from Oct. 11 – Nov. 1. The artwork will be on display outside the art room. Take a moment to stop down to enjoy the show.
Also during the month of October, the high school art department has partnered up with BASE in Evansville for a discussion and art show about underage drinking prevention. The event will feature over one hundred works of art around this topic. Students will have the opportunity to win prizes for their art. Please join us on November 15th from 5 to 8 PM at Emma’s Table which is located at 104 W. Main Street, Evansville, WI. Admission is free.
Math
Our math year is off to a great start! With the one-to-one chromebooks, each student has the ability to get online and utilize all of the resources from Big Ideas Math. If you have internet, your student can get a virtual textbook and lots more resources to help them understand their class. Each student in Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2 has the capability of getting a username and password from their teacher that gets them into the Big Ideas Math resources. Please let us know if you would like more training or information about Big Ideas Math and the resources available. We will gladly meet with you to show you how great it is! Thanks for being on your child’s team to succeed in math this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please remember that we are an email away.
Science
What is Computer Science?
EHS has several outstanding computer programmers who have pushed themselves to learn additional computer languages (beyond those taught in Computer Programming I and Computer Programming II). Devin Kuqo, Mason Young, Nathan Camm, Zach Ripp, Ari Pincus-Kazmar, Daniel Ripp and Owen Ellis are to be congratulated for taking on this challenge. The languages they are exploring include Python, Visual Basic, and Java.
LMC
Hello from the LMC!
Students are able to checkout and listen to e-books and audiobooks through Overdrive! Electronic books are a great option for students to read on the go, whether it’s on a Chromebook, phone or tablet. The best part is that these books automatically return, so students don’t have to worry about returning them. Students log-in with their student username and password.

ACT Prep Class
Fall class is designed for seniors who want/need to raise ACT score as they apply to colleges and juniors wishing to get an early start on prep.
Winter class is for all juniors to achieve the highest score possible on the ACT state mandated (free) test. Students may attend either session or mix and match as their schedules dictate.
Spring class is for the juniors who were disappointed by their state test scores and want to improve them before fall college applications.
This course will not make you smarter, but will teach you techniques to take the ACT test much more effectively, beat the time clock and thus raise the score!
