Valentine's Day

Our Valentine's Day party is this upcoming Tuesday, February 14th in the afternoon. We will have a game day with ice cream sundaes. I have included the link to the sign up if you would like to contribute.

We will be passing out Valentines in the morning of the 14th. If your child chooses to pass out Valentines, please include one for every student in the class. A class list was sent home last Friday.

Please have completed Valentine boxes back to school no later than Monday, February 13th.

Elms is having their second annual lock-on on Friday, February 24th from 4-7 pm. This is a really fun event with games, crafts, and food. Last year was such a success, and we are really looking forward to another great event. If your child will be attending, please have their permissions slip and money turned in as soon as possible. A permission slip was sent home on Wednesday.

Academics- What we're working on!

Math- Division, division, division! All this week has been division practice, and all of next week will be division practice as well. Keep working on those basic multiplication facts at home. Those students that have their math facts memorized are finding it a little easier to work with division. Fourth graders are expected to have all facts 0-10 memorized (no counting on fingers) by the end of fourth grade.

Writing- We got a huge chunk of our informational books written this week. We focused on writing long about our subtopics, which will be our chapters, and tried a couple of different structures for our paragraphs. The kids are loving sharing their expertise!

Reading- We are continuing using Holes to work on our comprehension. We should finish the book next week, then follow up with an in-class project. I would like to show the movie, though it is rated PG. Please leave me a note in your child's planner as to whether or not your child will be allowed to watch the movie during school.

Word Study- Keep working towards building good study habits with word study. Your child should be bringing their words and assignment sheet home each week. They are due the following week. Please try to work on one or two activities each night. This will help your child to learn the words and patterns rather than memorize them. This will only benefit them in the long run.

Social Studies- We took a closer look at the Bill of Rights this week as we begin our unit on Civics. Next week we will focus in on the first amendment as well as Popular Sovereignty later in the week. Today a Western Region map was sent home with your child. The map test will be on Friday, March 10th.
