Third Grade PTO Program

Please make plans to attend the Third Grade PTO Program on Tuesday, February 23rd. Students are busy practicing during special area time this week in order to get ready. All students are asked to wear blue to this event. There will be a pizza dinner prior to the performance from 6:00 - 6:45. Order forms went home in the Thursday folder last week and are due by Monday, February 22.

Math Update

In Math, we are finishing up Chapter 9/Multiplication Properties and Equations. Our test will be on Wednesday. A study guide went home today. Our next chapter will be all about fractions!

Multiplication Mania will be this Friday! Students don’t even know about this yet, but it will be a fun morning of playing multiplication games to celebrate their hard work this year so far in multiplication.

The 2nd Continental Math Meet came home in red folders on Thursday. Remember these are NOT graded, just opportunities for a little friendly competition within the grade level and a chance to work out those brain muscles.

ELA Update

We are continuing to work with fiction texts and poems. Students are learning to compare or contrast their point of view (perspective/opinion) to a character or narrator in the story. They are also identifying if a text is written in first or third person (also called point of view). We will be asking and answering “Thick” (inferential) questions and “Thin” (found in the text) questions.

We will not have spelling this week due to it being a short week.

In writing, we are still in our unit on how to write a Constructed Response answer. We are using our Social Studies and Science books a lot for this unit. Most of this will be done in the writer's notebook. Kids will practice transitions, answering in complete sentences, and how to cite the text or author.

Science Update

This week, our class has started having Science with Mrs. Starkey. Students will begin with Chapter 1/Living Things Grow and Change. Their focus for this week will be living things and their needs. If you have questions about Science, please contact Mrs. Starkey at

Social Studies Update

In Social Studies, we are wrapping up Chapter 6/Government for our State and Nation. This week, students will create an electronic slide show on the three branches of government - Executive, Judicial, and Legislative. Students will use the program PicCollage to create the slide show. Our test on Chapter 6 will be on Thursday. A study guide went home with students today.
