GMS Principal's Corner
October 4, 2020
Dear Galvin Families,
As we build and refine these new routines, we want to offer a few suggestions:
- Please remind your child to pack their Chromebook and their charger when it's their day to be in school!
- For health reasons we are keeping classroom windows open to allow fresh air in. As the weather gets cooler, students should dress in layers. Mornings can be chilly at the Galvin!
- Have your child bring a bottle of water (or two) to school. We want students to stay hydrated throughout the day.
We know that, despite these reminders, middle schoolers forget things and as caregivers, you often bring them needed items - lunch, sneakers, etc. Our new COVID guidelines do not allow visitors into the building. If you bring something to the school and buzz to be let in, someone will ask if they can help you and will then meet you at the door to take your item(s) from you. We will then get the items to your child. We greatly appreciate your understanding that we cannot, at this time, allow you in to the building unless it's an emergency situation.
Thank you and we are looking forward to our second week of full hybrid!
Warmly,
Sarah
Technology Update
On Friday, our technology department continued to assess and identify the problem. They have created a plan to increase access and functionality of technology inside the building. This will greatly improve the student experience both at GMS and at home. Your children should see some improvement by Monday and vast changes by the end of the week, if not sooner. Thank you for your continued patience. These three days taught us a lot and we anticipate each day next week will be better.
With regard to student Chromebooks, please note the following:
- Every students at the Galvin will be issued a school-owned Chromebook. If you haven't picked one up for your child yet, you will soon be able to get one from the Galvin. We will share a detailed plan for this on Monday.
- We have preloaded curriculum related apps and software on these devices. The devices also come with a security software that protects your child while on our network. For these reasons, we ask that the device you send to school with your child is the school-issued Chromebook. Doing so ensures they will have access to the tools they need. Thank you.
Again, we cannot thank you enough for your support and patience as we work to ensure that our technology supports a positive student learning experience this year.
2 + 2 = The GMS Math Team!
If your child loves math, we encourage them to sign up for the Galvin Math Team. Any student interested in joining the Math Team should sign up using this link: GMS MATH TEAM SIGN UP.
Students should sign up using their school email. Math Team practices and competitions will be held virtually after school.
Please contact Ms. Cummings with any questions @ cummingsk@cantonma.org.
