Updates for the Week of Oct 24-26
Hello First Graders & Families!
October is flying by!
This week we are in for a shortened week, with only 3 days of school. We will send home a new spelling list this week, but please plan to work on this unit for this week and the following week. We will study list A this week, and list B the next week. This will give us some extra time with this new spelling and decoding skill! If you have questions or need help, please let me know!
We hope you and your family enjoy a nice, long fall break this weekend!
A Few Reminders:
*Tuesday and Wednesday are our PE days this week - be sure to wear tennis shoes!
*There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday and Friday! Enjoy your fall break!

Updates for the Week of Oct 17-21
Hello First Graders & Families!
We cannot wait to share this "Corn Maze" experience with our students and parent chaperones this Friday! If you have not sent in your field trip forms, please do so ASAP. We will be unable to take any students on the trip without a completed and signed field trip form. If you need extra forms, please let us know and we will be happy to send one.
We will also celebrate this week with our FALL FESTIVAL! Come join us on Thursday for a night of games, desserts and prizes! 5 - 7:30.
Conferences are still being held through the end of this month. We have enjoyed meeting with you so far and sharing the wonderful things that are going on here in first grade. It is so important that we meet with you to go over beginning of year assessments in Reading and Math, so if you haven't scheduled a conference yet, please use this link to see the dates/times that are still available:

Reminders for the week:
*Birthday Celebrations for October will be on Thursday, October 20th.
*Field Trip is this FRIDAY! Please remember to bring a jacket and wear tennis shoes. We would like for your child to dress in WES colors if possible. (Green/Gold)
What's New in First Grade?
This week we will begin our unit on community helpers!
Our students will be learning about all the different roles of people in our community and how those people make a positive impact. Some of the different helpers that we will discuss are: firefighters, chefs, police officers, farmers, nurses, carpenters, mail carriers, dentists, teachers, and veterinarians, just to name a few. Ask your child to tell you about all of the helpers they know and discuss ways they can help in their community!

Updates for the Week of Oct 10-14
Hello First Graders & Families!
Last week we began our Fall Conferences! Thank you for meeting with us! We will continue to host conferences throughout the month of October. During this conference, we will discuss the beginning of year assessments in Reading and Math, as well as show you writing samples and discuss any questions/concerns you may have.

What's New in First Grade?
Last week we introduced "fidget toys" into our classroom.
Students have been very excited to explore the different "calm down tools" at our "calming corner" this week. Ask your child to tell you which "fidget" worked best for them!

Home Work Help
Each night, Monday through Thursday, we will have opportunities for you to work with your child on literacy, writing and spelling! These routines should take between 10-20 minutes each night. The nightly recommendations are listed below:
*Read your baggie book.
*Read your spelling words to your parent 2X.
Tuesday Night
*Read your baggie book.
*Write your spelling words 3X each.
Wednesday Night
*Read your baggie book.
*Write 5 sentences. Use a spelling word in each sentence.
Thursday Night
*Read your baggie book.
*Take a practice spelling test. (Tricky words, list words, and 2 sentences)
Friday Night
*Check your folder!
*Have a great weekend!
