GREETINGS
CAMP ACADEMICS
READING/WRITING
We are making connections to books. We are working on the following skills: complex sentences, sequencing, using question marks, comparing/contrasting, and things that are alike and different in stories. The students will be writing personal narratives. They will write about the many experiences they have had.
MATH
The class will be revisiting place value with tens and ones. As a challenge activity, I would suggest that you go to www.sheppardsoftware.com under the Math tab. There will be a tutorial for place value. It is more advanced than what we do in class, but it is good to challenge the students.
SOCIAL STUDIES
The students will be discovering and discussing the many characteristics of the state of Alaska. They will then compare their findings to those of Texas. The comparisons will be shared with the class.
- Alaska is twice the size of Texas.
SCIENCE
We will continue to learn about magnets and magnetism. The students need to understand the words attract and repel as they relate to magnets.
PEARLS OF WISDOM
SUCCESS:
Don't just wish for it.
Work for it!
WEBSITE OF THE WEEK
Our featured website this week is: www.pbskids.org
There are sections for kids, parents, and teachers. Those are the tabs I would direct my child to.
FUN FACTS
The Niagara Falls have eroded their way 10 miles upstream since they were first formed some 10,000 years ago. The tremendous amount of water tends to eat through its limestone base relatively rapidly, and if erosion continues at its present rate, geologists estimate that the falls will disappear completely in 22,000 years.
BETTER GO WHILE YOU STILL HAVE A CHANCE!
