Culture of Dignity: Week 6
This Week: The Mirror pg. 91
This lesson will make students aware of important issues which every student faces, regardless of gender identification, while helping them find their words and giving permission to ask for support.
Objectives:
*Making connections between culture standards of gender appearance and self-image, as well as unhealthy body image and gender equality expectations.
*Students' idea of gender, linked by media literacy.
*Connecting cultural gender expectations and their own.
Takeaways:
*Toys: the invisible rule of what is accepted to do or feel. (right way to act because of gender.)
*People are not born feeling worthless
*Expand the use of the SEAL tool to involve communication in uncomfortable situations
*All are affected by messages of how we are suppose to act
*How to throw away negative self talk and not let it control you.
Challenge Yourself:
*Give a compliment to someone of each gender. Observe how they react.
*If there are toys in the house, or look up new toys, and see if they are gender-specific and if the new toy designs are less so.
