The Importance of Relationships
Research shows that families can create developmental relationships that help children grow core abilities, like curiosity, resilience, integrity, and empathy. Explore your family values and decide what you will give your children through the relationship you create with them.
Read, Read, Read

Lets Keep Those Math Minds Sharp!
This Month's Math Problem:
June and Mark went to an ice cream parlor. June ate 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, and Mark ate 4 scoops of chocolate chip ice cream. How many scoops of ice cream did they eat altogether?
**See the bottom of the newsletter for the answer.
Easy Pineapple Upside-Down Cake
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 can (20 oz) pineapple slices in juice, drained, save reserved juice
- 1 jar (6 oz) maraschino cherries without stems, drained
- 1 box Betty Crocker Super Moist Yellow Cake Mix
Heat oven to 350 degrees (325 for dark or nonstick pan). In a 13x9 inch pan, melt butter in the oven. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over butter. Arrange pineapple slices on brown sugar. Place cherry in center of each pineapple slice, and arrange remaining cherries around slices; press gently into brown sugar.
Add enough water to reserved pineapple juice to measure 1 cup. Make cake batter as directed on box, substituting pineapple juice mixture for the water. Pour batter over pineapples and cherries.
Bake 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Immediately run a knife around the side of the pan to loosen the cake. Leave pan over cake 5 minutes so brown sugar topping can drizzle over cake, remove pan. Cool 30 minutes. Serve warm or cool. Store in refrigerator.

Cheatham Park Elementary
CPES did a Read A Thon at the beginning of March to celebrate Read Across America. We raised money to purchase books for the library and students.
On Friday, March 5, several members of the Springfield High School Football Team spent their morning reading to the students at Cheatham Park Elementary School as part of Read Across America Week. The time was greatly enjoyed by the Students and teachers alike.
CPES is Hatching Chickens
Students at Cheatham Park Elementary School are getting a close-up look at the life cycle of a chicken, beginning with monitoring the development of the tiny embryo within the egg. The development of the embryo, known as the incubation period, takes about twenty-one days. The eggs must be kept safe and warm for this process to take place.
Mrs. Rory Coyle, the computer teacher at CPES, has carefully placed 18 eggs inside an incubator in the school office area. She is a certified egg candler in the state of Georgia. Students watch virtually as Mrs. Coyle uses a flashlight to check the development of the embryos every couple of days. This is called candling. The flashlight penetrates the shells and reveals how quickly the baby chicks inside are growing. Hopefully, students will get to see the baby chicks hatch in a couple of weeks.
Krisle Elementary
TVA awarded iA with a $5,000 grant to use for our PBL projects. Project Based Learning allows scholars to dive into real-world scenarios, explore possibilities, and create solutions using research and innovation. Congratulations to our scholars and magnet coordinator, Maureen Henderson, for receiving this funding.
Westside Elementary
WES students met their school-wide behavior goal. They celebrated with a shaving cream party.
