This week!

Another great week at Jerling! We completed our MAP testing this week. MAP standards for Measures of Academic Progress and is administered three times a year. Teachers and staff use this information to set academic goals and guide their instruction. We will be administering make up testing next week and will be sending home results when the testing window closes. In addition, teachers will be reviewing this information with parents during parent teacher conferences.

This week we want to recognize some students for being Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Kind! These students were noticed by staff for following the Jerling Pledge and to won our PBIS Raffle!

Social Work Corner

In the coming week, students will be participating in a lesson which is set to teach students the appropriate behavioral expectations for the skill of “Accepting Criticism or a Consequence.”

The objectives of the lesson for students include:

  • learning the steps of the skill of “Accepting Criticism or a Consequence.”

  • practicing the skill.

  • generalizing the use of the skill to different situations and people.

An example would be: when a student is standing in the hallway by someone else's locker and they are going to be late to class and a teacher tells them that they need to get to class so they are not late.

Another example would be: when a student is talking in class and is disrupting the learning of the class and the teacher redirects them to focus on the lesson.

Please reinforce the importance of knowing that we all make mistakes and that's okay, but we need to use our coping skills to stay calm (green zone) and help us make good choices so we can all have a safe and comfortable place to learn!

Every week we will be highlighting a social emotional lesson that we are teaching our students. Click here for an overview of the Second Step program.

Attention 6th Grade Parents!

Starting Monday, 6th grade teachers will be implementing a positive behavior point system in their classes. As a way to incentivize positive behaviors the 6th grade team is planning a fun end of trimester reward for our students. Students will "earn" this reward by following the Jerling Pledge and can get two points a day. If a student is struggling with earning their points teachers will be reach out to parents to talk about different ways to support their student.

ATTENTION all Choir, Band and Orchestra Students and families!!!
Music Parents East is starting off the year with a popsicle party!! Come and enjoy a popsicle in the Jerling commons Tuesday September 20th from 4:00-4:45pm. We will be accepting membership at that time as well. We highly encourage all families to be members of the association. Being a member doesn’t require any commitment— you can be involved as much or as little as you wish, but it does allow us to give the music program things they are in need of or provide fun opportunities for the students.
Looking forward to seeing familiar faces, meeting new ones and starting off the year on a great note!

*Each music student will receive a free popsicle and siblings/families can enjoy for $1.00 each.

Be the Reason....

This year's district theme is "Be the Reason." This theme is intended to inspire others to be someone else's reason... You can be a reason someone feels, valued, heard, supported, cared for, accepted and loved! This year we want to shout out all of our students for "Being the Reason" we all have had a great start to the year. We know they are our reason we love our jobs so much. Thank you for raising such wonderful children!

This week Liam wanted to share his reason...
