The Groundhog has spoken this week. Six more weeks of winter is on the way! Good thing the first graders have become masters of making snowflakes.

A Note from Ms. Terry

Dear New Emerson families:

Welcome to February, the shortest month of the year. February is a time for magical learning in the classroom when our students begin to hit their stride and "get it". All of our hard work is paying off and we are seeing the fruits of our labor. Each and every day educators are making a difference in the lives of students and staff.

I am pleased to announce that the Colorado Department of Education has awarded New Emerson the John Irwin award. The John Irwin award is given to schools that demonstrate exceptional academic achievement over time. New Emerson received an Exceeds Expectations rating on the Academic Achievement indicator of the School Performance Frameworks reflecting exceptional performance in Math, English Language Arts, and Science. The Excellence Awards are named for a true friend and visionary of education, former Colorado State Representative, John J. Irwin. New Emerson received this award in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, no award given in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 no award given, and 2022! Congratulations, New Emerson learners, staff, and families.

If you haven’t heard, Ms. Lora Quesenberry, art teacher, has received the White Iced Educator Award! This award is sponsored by the D51 Foundation. Ms. Lora will be honored at the 11th annual White Iced Celebration on the evening of February 4th. The community is welcome. You can purchase tickets here https://d51foundation.org/white-iced-celebration/ . Please extend congratulations to Ms. Taisa Martinez, fourth grade teacher, for completing her masters in education.

Thank you for your continued support.

Onward!

Ms. Terry
