ATTENDANCE: Please remember that it is the parent/guardian responsibility to inform the office when
your student will not be in school. If you only inform the teacher, it is not the teacher’s responsibility to
inform the office for you. It is more important to inform the office of an absence.
DRESS CODE: Dress code has long been a problem here at East Broadway. Though the District provides
the dress code, schools don’t always enforce it because of the immense issue that it is and the time it
takes out of the school day. The biggest issue at East Broadway is the form-fitting
tights/leggings/jeggings. The Dress Code says: “Tight, form- fitting clothing is not permitted. Tights and
leggings are allowed if the front and back are covered by a long shirt, skirt or dress.” It has been very
hard this year because parents/guardians/students complain that they didn’t know about the Dress
Code, etc. It is posted on the TPS website and on the East Broadway page. This is especially an issue with
the girls and when it is brought to their attention or to the attention of an adult, it becomes a bigger
issue. It appears that the Dress Code will remain the same for next year.
The second biggest issue with Dress Code is holes/tears in pants. The policy states: “Holes/tears in jeans
are NOT permitted, unless the holes are BELOW the fingertips when the arms are fully extended.” Just
to clarify, a hole is a hole whether there is material under the hole or not. A tear is a tear whether you
wear something underneath the tear. A tear is NOT a tear when it is sewn or a patch covers it.
It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian/student (depending on age) to be aware and to follow the
TPS School District Dress Code. At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, these rules and the other
rules in the policy will be strictly enforced. As a reminder, if an individual school sees that there are
issues/concerns/abuses of different parts of the Policy, they can make their own rules concerning any
part of the policy. As it is right now, East Broadway supports and will enforce the TPS Dress Code Policy
going forward.
