Dear Students, Families, and Staff
It’s nice to be in the second quarter. Everyone seems to be settled into a routine and working very hard. Extra curricular activities are moving along and this week the winter season athletes have been having meetings to learn about how winter sports will work this year. They begin practices next Monday and appear to be very excited to begin the season. We’re starting up the Art Club again today and you can read more about that in this letter. Thank you Mrs. Landry-Fowler, for starting this activity up again. I’m sure that our visual artists are thrilled.

PROJECT GRACE: Community Project
On November 24, SHS planned to do a community service project through our ADVISORY program we called PROJECT GIVE! Our Student Council led the endeavor asking our school members to contribute items for Project Grace that were needed for their work currently. Students and Staff donated things like dish soap, hand towels, kitchen towels, paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap (bars and liquid), and shampoo.
Even though school was cancelled on November 24, Admin I still had a great amount of supplies to share with PROJECT GRACE! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this project! Great job!
Art Club
The SHS Art Club is back!
When: Fridays from 2:40 to 3:40
Where: Art Room E106 (and online)!
Advisor: Ms. Landry Fowler
Join code: cg36dme
The first meeting will take place this Friday, Dec. 4th. On the Google Classroom, there is a sign-up sheet for those who want to attend in person (limit 14). A Google Meet will also be open for students who wish to attend remotely.
Senior Parking Lot Woes
We have been receiving negative feedback from community members because our Senior Lot has so much daily trash being just left on the ground. In fact one mother-daughter duo cleaned the entire lot one Saturday and when they came through the next day on their walk, it was just as bad. They were extremely frustrated and upset. We have put large trash barrels on the medians in that lot so they are out of the way for snow plows, so people using that lot need to do the right thing and not make a mess. Our maintenance team is short-handed and do not need the extra work.
Please help with this problem. The next step will be closing that lot to vehicles and we would prefer to fix the problem and not close the lot.
Let’s do our part!
Thank You!
Today is Mrs. Jennifer Joray’s final day as a long term substitute in our music department. She has been a wonderful support for our musicians and we appreciate all she has done this fall. We wish her the best of luck in her new job as an elementary music teacher in Bath! Thank you, Jennifer.
New Staff Member
Last night at the School Board meeting, Jeffrey Mosher was appointed as the new Choral Music teacher. Mr. Mosher received his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Southern Maine and anticipates earning a second Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 2021, also from USM.
He has been very active in several musical positions, including Director of Music at Camp Takajo in Naples, Maine, a member of the Voice Faculty at the Portland Conservatory of Music, as well as both the Director of Choral Activities and Voice Faculty at the Murray Conservatorium in Albury, Australia.
We welcome Mr. Mosher to our faculty!
Parent Meeting
The second quarter Parent Meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 9, from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. This meeting will be a virtual meeting and there will be an invitation sent out next Wednesday.
Scarborough High School Digital COVID-19 Time Capsule
Our High School Learning Commons is embarking an interesting project! Read all about it! If anyone would like to contribute to the time capsule, please contact Deirdre Dupree at
ddupree@scarboroughschools.org.
Living though a global pandemic has changed our lives in ways we never could have imagined even one year ago. Everything, from big milestone events like graduations and birthdays to little everyday things like how we eat lunch and shop in stores, has been impacted by COVID-19.
One day soon (hopefully!), our lives will return to normal. This moment in time will pass and memories will fade. Our own perspectives may also shift over time. Future generations of students and staff at Scarborough High School may not have personally experienced life during the pandemic. We are living through a remarkable time in history that deserves to be memorialized.
Every one of us has unique and valuable experiences. Please share your writing, photography, music, art, recipes, new twists on celebrations, even your own personal face mask style! We will be collecting digital submissions for the SHS Digital Time Capsule throughout the year.
The following questions are meant to guide your submissions. Choose any of the following questions for your contribution.
- What did you discover about yourself during this time of COVID-19?
- What did you get better at during this time of COVID-19?
- What has been the hardest part of living during COVID-19 for you?
- What makes you feel proud about yourself or your world during COVID-19?
- What new hobbies or activities did you enjoy during COVID-19?
- What have you been thankful for during COVID-19?
- What method are you finding helps you best connect with others during COVID-19?
Travel Regulations
We are embarking on the season where families may travel for the holidays. As a reminder, anyone who travels out of state, with the exception of New Hampshire and Vermont, must quarantine for 14 days or receive a negative COVID-19 test with a sample taken less than 72 hours from arrival in Maine, quarantining while awaiting test results, per the Keep Maine Healthy Plan. New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Connecticut are no longer on the exempt list for travel.
At this time the only exempt states from this regulation are New Hampshire and Vermont. If a student at SHS takes a COVID-19 test, results must be provided to the Health Services Staff prior to returning to school or school related activities.
Please Note...
If a student at SHS takes a COVID-19 test, results must be provided to the Health Services Staff prior to returning to school or school related activities.
Please remember to:
- Pre-screen before coming to school
- Wash or sanitize your hands often
- Keep your distance
- Wear your mask properly
Be safe and be well! Here’s looking forward to the New Year!
