Sailing through the Ocean
In November of 1577, Drake set sail to the Strait of Magellan, he went with 150 men and 5 ships. He and the crew went through a 350 mile long waterway at the southern end of South America. Luckily Drake's ship, the Golden Hide, made it through the strait of Magellan. Drake was the first Englishman to sail around the world.

Born and Died
Sir Francis Drake was born in Devon, England in the 1540s. His father was Edmund Drake and his mother was Mary Mylwaya Drake. He died January 27,1596 when he was at sea. His body was placed inside a lead casket and slipped overboard.
