Lark Families,
Spring is in the air! We are enjoying all the learning across the year, culminating with projects, narrative writing and hands- on fun! Congratulations to all of our students that participated in Battle of the Books this year. We enjoyed the great school-level battles and can't wait to see our finalists at Century! Our students across the intermediate grades have worked hard to demonstrate all they have learned in Reading, Writing, Math and Science in our state assessments. We are so proud of their perseverance and deep learning.
We are so fortunate to have such a positive community of students, staff and families and we look forward to celebrating a successful year of learning together. Beginning today, we look forward to our PTO Event- One School, One Book : Upside Down Magic. We hope you can all join us for some Magic Tricks, Crafts, Science and a School Dance. Our students will be selling unique items at our Widget Workshop, as well as popcorn (cash only). Food trucks will also be here in our south parking lot. We can't wait!
The end of the school year is always packed with events, we look forward to seeing you at:

Hug and Go Safety
Our Hug and Go Lane is a great option for a safe drop-off and pick-up each day, away from the street traffic. The second row in our parking lot IS NEVER a drop-off location for students. If you want to park and walk your child through the parking lot crosswalk you may, but with the height of vehicles students may NEVER be dropped off from your car from our parking area.
Due to the concerns with the large number of vehicles driving around other vehicles through our crosswalks we have asked for our Thornton Police Department to be present to support. For our student's safety, please be patient with one another, we have a good flow of traffic which is under 10 minutes at both drop-off and pick-up.
For more details regarding our Hug and Go Lane, please see our presentation on our PHE Website- https://prairie.adams12.org/

Social Emotional Learning K-5
As you know, we are using the Second Step program in all of our classrooms. The Second Step program teaches children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school be a safe and respectful place where everyone can learn.
To further help our school be a safe and respectful place, we are going to use the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit. In the lessons, your child will learn specific skills to help stop bullying. Students will learn how to:
- Recognize when bullying is happening
- Report bullying to a caring adult
- Refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others
- Be a bystander who stands up and is a part of the solution to bullying.
For bullying prevention to work, everyone at school needs to be involved. All of our staff have received/are getting a special training in how to:
- Recognize and respond to bullying
- Support children who have been bullied
- Correct behaviors of children who are bullying
- Use strategies that support a positive school and classroom climate
And we need your help too! Get involved in making our school a safe and respectful place by letting us know if you hear about bullying at our school. Make sure your child knows to tell you or someone at school if he or she is being bullied. Give your child the clear message that it is never okay to bully others.
