SRC Update

Big image

Before the Thanksgiving holiday break, the SRC underwent a few changes: 1) study carrels were moved to the quiet area by the bathrooms and fiction section, 2) round, group tables were moved out to the large, nonfiction area, and 3) the nonfiction section was updated and reorganized to maximize the space.

Going forward, there will be a few more changes before the end of the year. The big books display will create a barrier between the conversation area and the study carrels, and my desk will be removed to make room for our own SRC Makerspace (more information to come soon). The SRC staff and committee would love to know what you think so far. Please feel free to share any thoughts, observations, and/or concerns.

NEW SRC Committee

An SRC Committee was created and convened for the first time last month. Its purpose is to identify and drive the goals of the SRC. Its members currently represent all three division levels with a student and parent member to be added this month. During the group meetings later this school year, issues such as identifying a common purpose, goals, and ultimately, the creation of a mission statement, will all be discussed and created. Please feel free to share your thoughts with a committee representative from your division. Members are listed below.

SRC Committee Members

  • McKenzie Weaver
  • Klay Shannon
  • Bonnie Benes
  • Allena Berry
  • Jim Broetzmann
  • Marcia Wilks
  • Katie White

(P.S. Upper School can thank this wonderful committee for the SRC Bistro during finals! Snacks continue to be available for purchase to faculty and students during Flex periods; however, the menu is more limited due to shelf-life. All proceeds go towards the purchase of comfortable reading chairs in the SRC.)

The link to our library catalog has not changed, but the page does look a little different. If you would like to be able to login and create lists for your classes, please email me.

Book donations are being accepted now across campus to benefit Cops for Kids, HALO, and Open Wings Learning Academy. Please look for the large, painted boxes marked "Book Donations" in the US, PS, and SRC. A notice will be going to out to Prairie families in the next Sunday newsletter about the book donation drive. Now is a great time to sort through those bookshelves before the holidays bring more books and no more space.

2nd Trimester Book Recommendations

Each trimester, 3-4 faculty members will display some of their favorite books for you to enjoy. This trimester, the SRC is featuring recommendations from Dr. Coffman, Mr. McKinney, Mrs. Benes, and Mr. Evans. Please see the displays on the end caps of the shelves in the fiction section.

Also, our wonderful US SRC Volunteers have created a unique display of literature featuring strong, female protagonists to go along with the release of Mockingjay in theaters last week. They are planning something fun for this month, so stay on the lookout for some holiday cheer.

Monday, Dec. 1st, 7:30am to Friday, Dec. 5th, 4:30pm
