Our Mission: Manaaki whenua, Manaaki tangata, Haere Whakamua

Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward

Our Values: I.R.O.C.K

Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind

Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai

Our 5 school values are I.R.O.C.K.

These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:

Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).

These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.

This term we are focusing on being 'Courageous'.

To be courageous we want our learners to - give everything a go, be a risktaker, stick up for themselves, think of their own solutions, try new things, offer opinions and idea, join in with others, and to be their own person.

SCHOOL GOAL: Being 'open' to new learning!

WHAT: Being prepared to learn new ‘skills’ at school this term!

WHY: To understand that learning never stops

To know that I am capable of learning new things

Being open to learn in all areas – socially, academically and emotionally

I can improve myself by being open to new ideas

You are keen to ‘take on’ new learning and use this learning to develop your skills

You want to learn new things – you are a sponge and might go on to research more!

Even if it is not a subject you like, you are still keen to learn and develop your skills

You are always improving and developing your skills with new learning.

Kia ora koutou to our Vogeltown whanau, welcome to the end of Week 2 of Term 3, another fantastic week!

This week saw the first sports exchange against Central School. This is always a highlight for the kids as we play for the Carrington Cup against our city cousins! Unfortunately we did not get to keep the cup this time!

We also had our Taranaki team Learning conferences on Thursday night and over today. A massive thanks to everyone who made the time to come and in and meet with your child's teacher. Later in the term we will have the Huatoki and Paetoki learning conferences.

A reminder that the biggest part of the learning conferences is the discussion around the Progress report. This report is designed to give you an update on the progress of your child academically and socially. Also on these reports are the next learning steps for your child, your teacher would have given you some ideas to help with these at home. A copy of this report will be sent home next week for our Taranaki team learners.

The Huatoki and Paetoki teachers spent today working alongside a specialist teacher in writing. We are using a new online tool that will help us to make better writing moderation and assessment of our learners and better teaching points for each student. The feedback today, from the teachers, was that this tool will be valuable for accelerating our students in writing and providing specific feedback for teachers and parents.

Lastly, I have noticed an increase in the number of students who are late to school. It is vital that our kids are at school on time - the first half hour of the school day is the most important part where our students can get themselves set up and ready for a full day of learning. Missing just half an hour a day can add up to a huge chunk of learning that our kids are missing out over a term. In addition, we are spending more and more time contacting parents when children are absent from school. Please let us know if your child is going to be absent from school. If we don't hear from you, your child is marked as truant as per Ministry of Education reporting. You can text us, phone us or use the Skool Loop app to report an absence.

Thanks whanau,

Mr O

A massive welcome to Joanna Hoskin (Rm 1) and Tyvian Viliamu-West (Rm 5), who started at Vogeltown this week.

We know you will enjoy Vogeltown! A massive welcome to our new whanau!

To assist the school with preparation for the rest of 2020, please inform the office of any students who may be starting or leaving that we may not already know about.

If you know any families who may be thinking about coming to Vogeltown in 2021, please get these families to contact myself or the school office for an enrolment pack or for a visit.

Below are the 'Four Year Old Friday' dates for Term 3.

Vogeltown vs Central - Sports Exchange

We had an awesome sports exchange at Vogeltown against Central yesterday. We really enjoy this sports exchange - especially playing for the 'Carrington Cup' (now the Carrington Shield since 2015). Unfortunately for Vogeltown we were on the wrong side of the scoreboard with a few losses and as a result, losing the Carrington Cup.

The results were:

Rugby - Loss - MVP Tane Repia

Football - Loss - MVP Abigail Williamson

Netball B - Loss - MVP Te Ana Hamilton-Whale

Netball A - Loss - MVP Lauren Gardner

Basketball - Tie - MVP CJ Petersen

Bowls - Win - MVP Tilly Holder

Chess - Loss - MVP Kyson Wallace

A massive thanks to our coaches and supporters! It was a great exchange and was enjoyed by all.

As a result of the loss, Mr Johnson (Principal of Central School) is providing us with a Central flag that we have to fly at school until our next sports exchange next week.
