Principal's Message

Hello Hound Families,

The Hilton staff and I are looking forward for the opportunity to share your child's progress during fall conferences. I am amazed at the growth I see in the children from year to year and even from day to day. They work hard and it shows. We are fortunate to live in a community with strong parental support and dedicated teachers and support staff. Thank you for all you do to support Hilton Elementary!

Third Grade Reading Law

In October of 2016, the Michigan Legislature passed a law stating that third-grade students, starting with those attending during the 2018-2019 academic school year, could be held back if they are more than one grade level behind in reading based on their standardized test scores. In response to this legislation, schools are now required to provide Individual Reading Instruction Plans (IRIPs) to students who score in the bottom 40% of their peer group.

The support provided by the school will be specific and focused on each child's area(s) of need. If your child qualifies for an IRIP, you will be receiving information in early November. Your help is needed at home to promote literacy and improve your child's reading ability. All children are encouraged to read, or engage with another reader, for at least 20 minutes per night, to increase their reading proficiency.

School Attendance, Tardies and Early Dismissal

We are well into the school year, and with daily routines and classroom expectations firmly in place, class time is focused on curriculum and instruction. In order for your child to benefit from the qualify education provided by the Hilton teachers and support staff, they have to be in class. Illness and appointments are inevitable, and we understand. And we realized there are special events that occasionally result in children missing school. However, we ask that you make school a priority. Arriving late or leaving early has a dramatic effect on student learning. Please avoid this the best that you can. Some of the most valuable time is the first and last part of the day, when students and teachers greet each other, and when they say goodbye for the day.

We are accountable for the educational performance of your child, and this we take seriously. They can only teach them if they are in school. Please continue to be critical about decisions for missing school. We want the best for your child as well.

School begins at 8:47 am and ends at 3:50 pm. Students can be dropped off as early as 8:35 am. Arriving early allows your child time to visit with friends and mentally prepare for the day. Arriving late leaves them scrambling to catch up, in addition to disrupting the students who arrived on time. The importance of your child’s attendance cannot be overstated.

Thank you in advance for making attendance a priority.

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend!

Background Check

If you are planning to volunteer at school at all this year, BAS requires a background check. Here is the link to get that done:

*My School Anywhere- New Online Directory, Store, and Sign Ups*

To join the directory, please visit https://www.myschoolanywhere.com/join.a5w to input your child’s information and privacy settings. Hilton’s invitation code is “hiltonexplores”. This site will also be used to send PTO updates, sign up for events and after school clubs, accept donations and hold emergency contact information. You can also download the MySchoolAnywhere app to your smartphone to receive updated information on the go. If you don’t want personal info on the directory you can opt to not share. Your information will then only be used for emergency purposes.

Box Tops (October 26)

Please continue to collect box tops. The next deadline submission will be October 26. We will no longer be sending home Box Top Sheets. You can send them to school in a plastic bag with your child’s name and teachers name on it. In the past, money raised through this program financed the field trip transportation as well as granted up to $100 to each classroom for much needed supplies.

Kroger Shoppers

Hilton is now enrolled in the Kroger Rewards Program. Please support the school by linking us to your Kroger Rewards Card. Our number is 68151 or you can just type our school name in the search window at https://www.kroger.com/communityrewards

Amazon Smile

How fun would it be to shop, while at the same time, earning money for our school? Amazon Smile (https://smile.amazon.com) is through Amazon.com, in which they donate money for most items purchased through their website. The fun part is that the website keeps a running total on your account to see how much money you donate to the school just by shopping with them. Check out this 30 second video to see how you can add a shortcut to your (mobile) home screen to ensure all your Amazon purchases benefit Hilton Elementary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWgglu7ZCDE.

Coca Cola Give

Attention all Coca Cola drinkers! Another way to earn money for Hilton Elementary is through the Coca Cola Give Program. By collecting Coca Cola caps and codes, Hilton can earn money to purchase supplies for physical education, sports, technology and/or arts. Most Coca-Cola beverages that have a product code under its cap, or printed on its paper packaging, are eligible to be used for donation. Here is a link to the reference list of participating brands https://us.coca-cola.com/participating-brands. Please collect these clean items in a plastic bag and send to school with your child. There is a drawer in the office for collections.
