Thank you for keeping the focus on student learning
Thank you to the Kinder and 1st Grade team with your flexibility to ensure our campus schedule meets the needs of our students and the new LA TEKS and curriculum. Due to their willingness to make changes in their schedules, we did not need to go back to the drawing board as an entire campus-Thank you for always doing what is best for students!!!
We can't wait to see the STEM/STEAM Lab at River Ridge Elementary, today. Thank you to our PTA outgoing/incoming Presidents (Rachel Nichols & Kristina Swan), James Moseley, Darby Tobolka, Jennifer Cassell, Rosanne Slan and Marie Jimenez for your leadership as we see how we could support technology exploration at high levels at Akin. How exciting-more info. to come!!!

Summer Reading Program here at Akin!
Hi friends,
We are going to offer summer reading in the library on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-6:15 again this summer for teacher identified K-1 students (by invitation only). The goal in targeting these students is to help them maintain and/or grow from where they ended the year. It is difficult to find books at the library and book store written at kindergarten and first grade reading levels. Our hope is that parents will bring their students to read and play reading games for the 45 minutes and then leave with a bag of leveled books to practice during the following week.
We have roughly 30-35 kids that have been nominated, so I'm thinking we need at least 3-4 teachers to sign up each week to make this work. I will be there every week with the exception of July 16th as we will be on vacation.
