Painless Series

Titles in Barron's extensive Painless Series cover a wide range of subjects as they are taught on middle school and high school levels. These books are written for students who find the subjects unusually difficult and confusing--or in many cases, just plain boring. Barron's Painless Series authors' main goal is to clear up students' confusion and perk up their interest by emphasizing the intriguing and often exciting ways in which they can put each subject to practical use. Most of these books take a light-hearted approach to their subjects, often employing humor, and always presenting fun-learning exercises that include puzzles, games, and challenging "Brain Tickler" problems to solve. This title defines algebraic terms, shows how to avoid pitfalls in calculation, presents painless methods for understanding and graphing equations, and makes problem-solving fun.

Price? Varies, from $4.47+

Covered by Inspire funds? Yes.

Consumable? No.

SunDog Therapy

SunDog Therapy offers recreational classes for children and teens (ages 8+) to learn about positive reinforcement dog training, pet care, canine communication, enrichment games, and making toys/treats for dogs. We provide opportunities to engage in fun activities with dogs that promote the health and wellbeing of both humans and animals. They are open to anyone to take (inclusive to individuals with and without disabilities) and are ideal for kids who love animals, or who want to gain more experience with animals in a friendly and supportive environment. The classes are led by an occupational therapist/dog trainer and will incorporate both educational and interactive experiences with dogs who are specially trained for animal assisted interventions. These classes are recreational and do not provide direct therapy, but participants can develop valuable skills such as social skills, executive functioning, self-regulation, motor coordination, and more.

Classes are held throughout the year. Summer classes are held in Tustin on Mondays 2:30-4:30pm starting June 24, and our half-day camp is 9:00am-12:00pm from July 29 to August 2. Contact karen@sundogtherapy.com if interested in signing up!

SunDog Therapy also provides occupational therapy services (not covered by instructional funds) and dog training with your own dog (for pet dogs, ESAs, therapy dogs, and some assistance dog work). Visit www.sundogtherapy.com for more info.

Creating A Noticing Wall For Your Kid

"Most powerfully, though, the noticing wall has become another way for my daughter and me to connect. I get excited to look at the wall every day, and I think she does, too. I hope we’ll always find ways to write back and forth to each other about anything and everything, without judgment."
