Falco February Newsletter 2019
Newsletter for Five Oaks and Rachel Carson Middle School
A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Five Oaks and Rachel Carson Parents,
We are excited for the upcoming Parent Conferences at the end of the month. You should have received the first semester grades for your student(s). This is a perfect time for conferences to do goal setting for the 2nd semester so that students have goals and a plan to achieve their goals. Please call the school if you need assistance in signing up for a conference time.
The renovation is on target and on time. It is exciting to see the daily progress. Some of our teachers will be moving into new classrooms in March. There will also be a new entrance and front office beginning mid-March too.
We are entering the state-wide assessment window. You will be receiving information from your students’ teachers. It is especially important for students to be rested and have breakfast on those days. Testing is stressful for them and we want to be sure that they have every advantage.
We are in mid-February with a possibility of inclement weather. I often say that the only predictable thing about weather is that it is unpredictable. I would recommend looking at the Beaverton School District website for school closures and delays or signing up to get the alerts on your phone. The phone alerts come very early in the morning and will help you plan your day when there is inclement weather.
A focus of our school and the district is student attendance. We know there are many reasons for a student to legitimately miss school. If you are having difficulty getting your child to come to school, please contact the school and we will work with you to get your student to school. Consistent attendance is so important for a student’s learning and is critical to a student’s academic progress. Our job is to support your child and your family. Please reach out to us if you need our assistance.

WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AND GOOD HEALTH

If you receive an email stating your student has an overdue book and the book can’t be found, don’t fret. Look around the house (under the bed, in the car, between couch cushions) to locate it. EXCLUSION DAY
Parents and Guardians:
Exclusion day is fast approaching for immunizations. Our secretaries began notifying you of needed immunizations starting in October. Please get the immunizations done at your provider's office and return the completed paperwork to school before winter break. We must send a list of students with incomplete immunization records to Washington County in the beginning of January and we need time to ensure that immunization records are entered into our computer system beforehand. Washington County Health Department will then send you an exclusion notice. Your child will be excluded as of February 20th 2019 if immunizations are not up to date or complete. Absences for exclusion are considered unexcused. It can be very difficult to get an appointment with a provider for several weeks before exclusion so please get this done now! It is also the perfect time to get a flu shot for your child if you have not already done so. Nurse KimUNA NOTA DE LA ENFERMERA KIM
DIA DE EXCLUSION
Padres y tutores:
Enfermera kim
