ThunderRidge Weekly Update
February 3, 2023
Patterson's Perspective
Hello Grizzly Families -
We're wrapping up another busy week at ThunderRidge, including the end of course registration for the 23-24 school year and celebrating several of our student athletes on National Signing Day.
It's recently come to my attention that there have been some destruction, traffic and parking issues occuring at the facilities and businesses immediately surrounding ThunderRidge. These facilities are not to be used for our students or parents to park in or drive through during school hours. I know that the parking and drop-off space at TRHS is not ideal, but it is important that we are respecting our neighbors around us. I appreciate your support in this matter.
I am looking forward to seeing our senior parents at Senior Parent Information Night on February 16 at 5:00pm in our Auditorium. In the meantime, you can find important graduation information on the Seniors 2023 page of our website.
Thank you all for your support and, as always, please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great weekend.

The Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program Application for the 2023-2024 school year is open
Douglas County School District offers a variety of Career & Technical Education (CTE) programming. Regional CTE programming is offered to ensure all high school students have access to quality educational programs emphasizing core academic content, Postsecondary & Workforce Readiness (PWR) competencies, technical skills, and seamless transition to further education or employment.
State approved CTE programs are taught by Douglas County School District teachers who have received State CTE credentialing in their respective discipline and program. A list of CTE courses is available in each school’s course guide.
The CTE request/application process is an additional step to be completed by students interested in accessing programs outside of their home high school, NOT for students registering in CTE programs offered at the student’s home high school.
Students work with their home high school counselor to access and complete the request for CTE courses at another DCSD location.
Please see the attached for links to more information on each regional program and contact your counselor with any questions!
The application form is open only to students logged into Google with their “s.dcsdk12.org” account.
Registration form DUE FEBRUARY 10, 2023.
Senior Board Volunteers Needed
CALLING ALL THUNDERRIDGE PARENTS!
Here is your chance to see our students at their very best!
Become a Senior Project Judge and celebrate our seniors' learning and accomplishments. This cumulative activity showcases our students’ reading, writing, and speaking skills as well as emphasizes many important “soft skills” such as time management, problem solving, and work ethic. In order for these projects to be successful we are asking for parental and community help with Senior Boards. The Senior Boards listen to and evaluate students presenting their Senior Project.
Underclassmen parents, this is a great opportunity for you to see and understand what your children will be doing their senior year. Senior parents, what better way to support your senior by serving on a board that celebrates their final high school project?
Senior Boards will take place on Friday, April 7th from 9:30 am - 3:00 pm. If you would like to participate on the Senior Boards please click on this link and complete the questionnaire. If you have any further questions, please contact Denise Orsini at Denise.Orsini@dcsdk12.org.

IB Update
Another week in the IB world saw our students really digging into their Internal Assessments. One of the things about IB that is so unique is the Internal Assessment that students do in each of their IB classes. These assessments differ depending on the class and allow each student to do a further investigation into a topic of their choosing. This lets the students pick the things they are most passionate/curious about and really dig in. It is a great opportunity for students to try their hand at things they might be interested in studying further in the future or explore possible future career opportunities.
These Internal Assessments also factor into the student's final scores on their exams, really strengthening the importance of doing them with fidelity. Unlike many other college-level/preparatory courses taken at the high school level, the Internal Assessments offer students the ability to earn 15-30% of their score before ever walking into the examination.
This is a busy time, but an important one, so hopefully all of us can take a moment to support our IB students and ask them how their Internal Assessments are going!
