The Good News
September 4, 2016 - St. John XXIII School
Welcome Back to School!
We have had an amazing start up and want to extend our sincere appreciation to our staff, students, and parents for the support, cooperation, trust, and enthusiasm that went into creating such a positive first week of school! As Blessed Teresa of Calcutta shared with us, "I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things". Mother Teresa has been chosen as our EICS District Saint and will be canonized on Sunday, September 4, 2016. Both Mother Teresa and St. John XXIII, our Patron Saint, provide us with incredible legacies of compassion, service, acceptance, and love. We will continue to learn about these two amazing people as we journey together this year.

We truly are a St. John XXIII Village and we thank you for the trust you have given us by bringing your children here. Together, we will help them become the young people God has called them to be. We recognize that, while it can be a very exciting time for our young scholars, it can also be an anxious time for parents and students to transition to new teachers, bus drivers, environments, etc... We thank-you for your continued support and trust as we make decisions, get to know, provide supports, teach, and guide your child this year. The staff at St. John XXIII are dedicated, passionate, and caring professionals and our team is prepared and excited to provide quality learning environments for your child. Helping your children become independent, responsible, and confident learners and leaders is a priority for us this year.
Some ways you can help your child with this:
- If you drop off and/or pickup, allow them to walk in and out of the school on their own. They know their routines (and if they forget-we've got them). This also greatly aides with the congestion at entrances and exits and maximizes safety for your child.
- Encourage your child to pack and unpack their backpacks and agenda daily on their own.
- Help your child remember that having and solving problems are healthy and enable us to grow and learn solutions and tools we need for our future.
- If they forget something at home or school, give them the opportunity to solve the problem on their own and find alternative solutions. The more they can do this, it allows their brains to connect to solutions rather than having problems solved for us. Having natural consequences is healthy and encourages growth.
We are looking forward to an amazing year full of faith, learning, and discovery!
In Christ,
Mrs. Melnyk & Mrs. Weller
School Parking
And you are the ones who know that parking in and around the school continues to be problematic; between us and Win Ferguson, over 750 students are shuttled in and out of this area daily.
Please be respectful of our neighbours, students and of each other. Always keep safety at the forefront of any driving decisions you make.
Pick up is at 3:14. Students are to meet their parents outside the school at the spot they have agreed upon together. There is no supervision for students after 3:30.
