Happy New Year! We have have started our new year off with a bang! Your firsties have been working very hard.

Important Dates
01/18 No School-Martin Luther King Day
What we will be learning:
Math:
- identify U.S. coins including pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters by value and describe the relationships between them
- Counting by twos, fives and tens to determine the value of a collection of pennies, nickels and/or dimes
- define money earned as income
- distinguish between spending & saving and consider charitable giving
- define money as earned income
- identify income as a means of obtaining goods and services, making choices between wants and needs
- skip counting by twos, fives and tens to determine the total number of objects up to 120 in a set
- tell time to the hour and a half hour using analog and digital clock
Reading/Writing:
- Traditional Literature-Folktales
- connect the meaning of a well-known story or fable to personal experiences
- explain the functions of recurring phrases in traditional folk tales/fairy tales (once upon a time, they lived happily ever after...)
- analyze, make inferences and draw conclusions about theme
- write brief stories that include a beginning, middle, and end
Science:
- Describe changes in location
- Demonstrate how objects move
Social Studies:
- The history and roles of being a citizen
- United States Government
- Veteran's Day
- The history and culture of Thanksgiving

Don't forget we collect Box Tops for Education! The class with the most collected for the month gets an ice cream party!
