Seco Scoop
Arroyo Seco Jr. High School -- April 17, 2020
Principal's Message
Hello Seco Families,
Thank you for your ongoing support and flexibility as we continue to implement remote learning. We know that many of you are facing numerous challenges during this time. We miss our students and wish you and your families all the best.
As you know, the physical school buildings remain closed. We are continuing to clarify processes regarding awards, PE locker clean out, textbook return, and yearbook distribution, among others. We will share more information as we are able.
Friday April 24 is the end of the 4th quarter progress reporting period. Grades will be available on Infinite Campus on Tuesday the 28th. In order to view your child's grades, you must have an Infinite Campus account set up. Keep in mind that this is a progress report grade; assignments marked "missing" help you and your child know what work they still need to turn in.
An electronic Google form to sign up for Summer School will be posted by the district very soon. This will replace the traditional paper application forms.
Stay safe and healthy and have a great weekend!
Academic Integrity and Responsible Use of Technology
Please keep in mind that academic integrity during this time will continue to be enforced. See the Hart District Board regulations for more information: http://www.gamutonline.net/district/whart/DisplayPolicy/639044/
Please review this policy with your children and help oversee the work they are completing.
As students spend more time in online learning, we encourage you to talk with your child about responsible and appropriate use of technology. We also encourage all parents to closely monitor their child's social media platforms.
Weekly Wellness
Practicing gratitude is something we should do every day. As we struggle with everything that comes with adhering to the quarantine, a simple “feel-good” thing we can do is remember the things we are grateful for and appreciative of. Check out this video by Kid President, who demonstrates how easy it is to come up with things we can be thankful for: Kid President's 25 Things to be Thankful For
On The Break Room page of the Arroyo Seco website, you will find an April Wellness Calendar. It has small, simple activities you can do each day to promote your own, and your household members' wellness and. Click on the following link to check out the daily activities April Wellness Calendar.

Teacher Tips for Parents
We asked our teachers if they had tips for parents to support their children during online learning. Here is a sampling of their responses.
For my elementary school son, we complete all work in a spiral notebook. We haven't really organized it by subject. We just turn the page, date it, and start on the next assignment. It is a mixture of writing homework, math homework, and vocabulary homework.
We print off some online assignments so that he can complete the work on paper and then he types the answers into the online format after we have had time to review his work. It helps me to be more involved with checking for understanding on his assignments.
Try to set aside class time each day. If students don't check assignments on a regular basis, the work becomes overwhelming.
Please take an active role in supporting your child's distance learning. Don't take his or her word for it that assignments have been completed and turned in. Take a look at Google Classroom and Infinite Campus to confirm that work is being done.
Ask questions, don’t stress, do a little each day.
Students should make sure to check their email as well as google classroom. Maybe set up some notifications for Infinite Campus or Google Classroom so they know when we add announcements or write private comments.
Daily checking in on each class (even if it's not during their regular block schedule) just to make sure the students aren't missing important announcements.
Please make a schedule for your household. Give your child a time to work on their subjects each day. Insist that your child puts due dates on a planning calendar for themselves.
We as teachers are trying to just do our job. But we don’t want to stress out or overwhelm families. And if any family has working parents or parents aiding in the COVID relief, we want to understand the challenges of keeping their child on track.
Make sure that students are pacing themselves.
Communicate with the teacher! We are here to help!
Virtual Gratitude Jar
