Greetings Middlebury Families,
The momentum is speeding up towards a swift ending to the third quarter! Teachers are refining instruction and measuring student performance daily. They are also giving scholars extra help on assignments and additional time to complete the comprehensive activities. Understanding that there are several safety nets in place to increase scholar success, we ask that our parents and scholars take advantage of these opportunities to stay on top of all school work.
Another way families can ensure that our scholars stay current with submitting assignments is to routinely check through the Parental Portal of ProgressBook. There-- families can find REAL-TIME information regarding graded assignments, test scores, missing assignments, comments from the teacher, etc. If you are still in need of assistance with establishing access, please call us at 330.752.2766.
Another initiative we are planning to implement is a daily reading program that scholars will participate in every evening. Our kindergarteners through eighth-graders will be required to read a minimum of 30 minutes per night. They will be encouraged to read about topics that they already enjoy reading or want to study to gain more information. This will be a building-wide initiative that we will launch next month so stay tuned!
Also, state testing will begin closer to the end of next month. Therefore, every minute of class is crucial in ensuring that scholars are BEST prepared for the state exams. We only ask that our families help by making sure that scholars are present and prepared to learn every day.
We will all keep moving forward and remain focused on seeing that all of our scholars achieve academic growth!
Yours in education,
Ms. Woods-Wallace, M.Ed.

Middlebury Academy is a tuition-free elementary charter school located in Akron, Ohio. We opened in August 2013, serving scholars in grades K-8. Middlebury places high importance on safety and civility. These are core to having a good learning environment and building character.
We have a project-based learning curriculum philosophy that incorporates new and emerging practices and technologies, such as chromebooks and tablets. We view the entire world as our classroom and will have a variety of face-to-face, virtual and other learning activities outside of the school.
