Run so as to win for Jesus!
Dear Families,
Catholic Schools Week was a great success! Thank you for all your support of our school.
As we are mid-way through the 2nd trimester, I wanted to touch base with you about some changes I have made to our schedule and homework. This trimester, I rearranged our schedule to provide students with work sessions to complete daily assignments. These assignments were originally assigned as "homework" and students were given a few minutes to begin the work in class.
Now, students have the opportunity to complete these assignments in class and receive one-on-one help from me as needed. However, with this schedule I have asked that AR reading be done at home for at least 20 minutes a day. Students are allotted time during a work session to complete AR tests and select new books from the Library. AR reading at school will only take place once a students has completed all daily assignments. If students do not complete assignments at school, then they are expected to bring the work home to finish and to read their AR book. Students are still expected to accumulate 15 AR points per trimester including at least 1 non-fiction book.
Students are also expected to have their planners initialed by you indicating they have completed the assigned work for that day. This means that even if they've finished the work in class it should come home for you to check and sign off.
It is my hope that students will benefit from this arrangement in multiple ways; with more individualized teacher support as needed, more family time after school, and encourage independent reading as enjoyable/relaxing lifelong hobby rather than a "subject" in school.
Valentine's Day Party
On Tuesday, Feb. 14th students will exchange valentines and partake in treats from 2:00-2:45pm. If you choose to participate please make sure everyone is included. Each student was given a class list.
We will not be creating valentine mailboxes in class, but the kids are welcome to create something at home and bring it school to collect their valentines on that day.
