December Staff Member of the Month ~ Mrs. Hayes
The North Platte Public Schools Foundation in conjunction with North Platte Public Schools is excited to announce that we are honoring Andrea Hayes as the NPPS Bulldog Staff member of the month for December. Mrs. Hayes is a 5th Grade teacher at Eisenhower Elementary. Hayes, a graduate of North Platte High School, started her career at North Platte Public Schools in 2001. She also has an endorsement as a school librarian.
Her principal, Lyndsey Douglas, nominated Mrs. Hayes. “Andrea is a shining example of everything a great teacher should be! She works tirelessly to make sure her students are engaged and learning and is so professional in all she does.” Said Douglas.
Andrea stated in a biography that she comes from a “ family of educators” that included her dad as a teacher, coach and activities director, her mother as a school secretary and her older sister, a 4th grade teacher in Kearney. “I’ve always believed that teaching was my calling, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I believe that being a successful educator begins with relationships that are formed with students, and I feel that is my greatest strength as a teacher”. Said Hayes.
The December business sponsor was A Cut Above Salon and Spa. Monthly Sponsors give honorees a gift basket. The Foundation provides balloons and a gift card to the Bulldog Store at NPHS, and Prairie Friends and Flowers delivers a bouquet.
The North Platte Public Schools Foundation facilitates the program and takes nominations from principals and administration. Staff members are awarded monthly throughout the school year and will be recognized at Education After Hours in the spring. Interested business sponsors can contact the North Platte Public Schools Foundation at 696-3325.
January is National Mentor Recognition Month and TeamMates would like to thank all of our mentors here in North Platte!
If you see any of these wonderful mentors, be sure to say thanks for being there! You all make a difference! THANK YOU!!!
North Platte Public Schools works at ensuring our buildings are safe, and we are developing relationships with our students. Working with our SRO, we have a strong protocol about safety and making sure our district staff and students understand the protocol. I am proud of all of our staff and SRO on how we all work together to protect our students. The steering committee will continually update and modify our safety protocol in the coming months.
Safety and Security encompasses many items, and a cyber threat is just as much a safety risk as our students. We have many different types of data on our computers around the district. Our Technology Department is continually working to keep our network safe and secure.

Kids Klub at the ballet
This December Kids Klub was treated to a once in a lifetime experience thanks to Mid-Plains Community College and the American Midwest Ballet Company out of Omaha.
Last summer our 4th and 5th grade Summer Academy students attended a week-long Fine Arts Camp at MPCC and the American Midwest Ballet sent an instructor to give our students a week of immersive dance lessons. She was so impressed with our program and especially our students that she reached out and invited those students to Omaha’s Orpheum Theatre to see their production of The Nutcracker.
Our tickets were donated by the American Midwest Ballet Company, and generous donors from NPPS sponsored each child who attended. The donations came from Kids Klub staff, board members, teachers, administrators, program directors, principals and secretaries and went towards purchasing a brand new outfit for each child to wear to the ballet.
One week prior to the ballet Kids Klub Director, Carrie Lienemann and staff members, Jackie Erdman-Lienemann, Josie Erdman and Makenzie Lienemann took groups of students after school to Wal-Mart where they shopped for, tried on and purchased shoes, socks, dresses, suits, ties and hair accessories.
Early Saturday, Dec. 7th Kids Klub staff and students loaded the bus and headed for Omaha. The ballet was an incredible experience and our students and their parents were so grateful for the opportunity given to them.
Thank you NPPS staff, Thank you Mid-Plains Community College, Thank you American Midwest Ballet Company, and Thank YOU, parents and community members, for your continued support of our after school program.
Have a blessed Holiday Season & Happy New Year!

NPPS Maintenance
Did you know the NPPS maintenance crew receives an average of 120 work orders per week? These include preventive work orders too. Our team can complete about 24 work orders per day! Talk about a bunch of busy Bulldogs. Thank you, maintenance team, for all you do.
Unified Basketball Fun Day
Volunteers from the high school and representatives from NNPSD’s Unified Champion Schools Committee had a great time on Saturday, December 7th hosting the second annual Unified Basketball Fun Day. This event invites kids of all abilities to come together and have fun being unified. Basketball stations were held and then parents were asked to come back and watch scrimmages. The theme of the event is teaching students to “Choose to Include” and have fun together. All students left with a water bottle for participating in this event. Funds received from Special Olympics Nebraska were utilized to help sponsor this event. ~ Peggy Romshek
