Principally Speaking
Parents, thank you for actively participating in your child's education. It has been wonderful to see parents coming in for conferences these past couple of weeks. It is important that your child sees you proactive and involved in their education. Our teachers truly appreciate your support and look forward to working closely with you this year, thanks again!
We are beginning our 2nd quarter of school and our staff is working diligently with our students to support academic success. Our teachers continue to provide students with rigorous learning experiences, are providing additional support to close academic gaps, and pushing high learners to excel further. I wish all of our students and families a joyous Thanksgiving this year. Enjoy the time off with your family; please don't forget students return back from break on December 2nd.
Inclement Weather
If school is delayed or cancelled due to inclement weather, the district's automated system will call each home with notification about school closing or having a delayed opening. IF you have a call block on your phone you may not receive this call.
You will also find closing and delayed opening information on the district web page at www.nkschools.org
Weather Dress
Please be sure your child comes to school each day prepared for outdoor recess. They should have a winter coat, as well as hats and gloves. If it snows, we will go outside once the blacktop has been cleared of snow and ice. Also, students wait outside in the morning as buses arrive--they need to be warmly dressed then too!
The Nurse's File
Is it just a cold or the Flu?
Often times, it may be difficult to tell the difference. Symptoms can be very similar, but in general, the flu makes you feel worse. And the flu is more likely to result in more serious health problems such as pneumonia, bacterial infections, or hospitalizations.
Cold Symptoms
Nasal Congestion or Runny Nose
Sore Throat
Watery Eyes
Headache
Coughing
Sneezing
Influenza Symptoms
Extreme Body Aches
Fatigue/Malaise
Dry Cough
Fever and or Chills
Headache (moderate to severe)
Sore Throat
Vomiting and/or Diarrhea (this symptom is more common in children)
The common cold may last 14-21 days before symptoms completely disappear. You should seek an evaluation from your healthcare provider if you have a fever of 100.4 F or higher or if symptoms are persistent or severe. You can learn more about these facts and other at the CDC website. In addition, you can track flu activity in our area by checking the flu activ- ity map, updated weekly. www.cdc.gov/flu/about/disease/index.htm

Hello Nashua Families,
What a great first quarter we have had, and second quarter is shaping up to be just as exciting. Thank you to all who participated in our fundraiser and attended our Variety Show. It was very successful, and we look forward to doing great things for Nashua with these funds!
I'd also like to extend a huge thank you to all families who supplied food or supplies for our teacher dinner during parent teacher conferences, and also everyone who volunteered for or shopped at our Fall Book Fair. The proceeds from the Book Fair will go to directly impact the library, book author visits, and other library programs this school year!
If you are interested in joining PTA, individual memberships are $6.00 and business memberships are $10.00.
Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 19th at 6:00pm in the Nashua Library. All families are welcome to attend, whether you are members or not. We even have Staley A+ students available to help keep school-aged children entertained! (We are always looking for more A+ students to help!)
We hope to see you there!
