Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for your support last week as we experienced a true lockdown at school! We have some exciting events this week, including Family Reading Night/Pajama Night at the Library, Rainbow Day and the Principal's Coffee Chat! We are hoping to get parents to sign up for "My Family Tradition" night, to honor all of our backgrounds, cultures, and traditions!

Independent Study

If you are planning a vacation or trip that will last 5 or more school days, you can request an Independent Study packet for your child. If your child returns the work on the day they return to school, their absence will not be marked unexcused - they will receive credit for completing their Independent Study. Since teachers have to prepare this work, parents must request it no less than 5 school days before you leave. Independent Study is granted no more than once per school year and is not granted during December or January, since students already have a three-week vacation in that time period. Please keep in mind if your family leaves for a vacation without requesting an Independent Study, your child's absence will be marked "unexcused", which could lead to parents receiving a truancy letter from the school. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about this.

Absences from School

SHPS - If your child misses school please contact the front office to let us know the reason for their absence. If they are out sick due to any Covid like symptom (Fever of 100.4 or more, cough, headache, nausea, vomit, diarrhea, tiredness, shortness of breath, chills or muscular pain, congestion, sore throat, new loss of smell or taste) we will also need proof of a negative Covid test prior to their return or a doctors note. You can text or email a screen shot of the test with the students name.

My Family Tradition Night!

Please join us on Thursday, December 8th from 6 -7pm for "My Family Tradition Night". We have students whose families or ancestors are from many parts of the world, and would like you to share something special about your family with all of us! We are asking families/parents to create a "station" that others can rotate through, where you demonstrate something that is a tradition in your family. This could be music, a game, food to sample, an art/craft, or whatever you would like to share! If you are interested in participating, please fill out the Google Form below.
