Join the Cheltenham School District in Celebrating Black History Month
Community Conversation on School Safety and Security | March 7 | Wyncote Elementary School
In light of the tragic events in Parkland, Florida, the community is invited to a panel discussion on CSD school safety and security measures on Wednesday, March 7, 7-8:30 p.m., at Wyncote Elementary School (333 Rices Mill Road, Wyncote) with district, township and county officials. The agenda will include a review of the district’s safety and security measures, precautions, protocols and school-wide drills. If you'd like to submit questions for the panelists, please do so at schoolsafety@cheltenham.org.
CHS Select Choir and Chamber Orchestra Performs at Philadelphia's Episcopal Academy
Under the direction of Orchestra Director Matt Hoy and Choir Director Jenny Hutton respectively, the CHS Chamber Orchestra and Select Choir performed Franz Schubert’s entire Mass in G (along with additional choral and orchestral repertoire) on Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral. In addition to the choir and orchestra, the concert featured CHS alumni soloists Robert Balfour-Austin '17, Willa Douglas '16 and Thomas Kuchler '12. "Our students presented a phenomenal performance," Hutton said. "Their musicianship was top-notch, and the beautiful, resonant space made the performance even better. The warm, enthusiastic audience gave a long ovation and raved about the program. It was an extraordinary and memorable evening for our Cheltenham musicians." View the group's rehearsal>

Black Male Leadership Program Inductions
Based on their community involvement, GPA and school participation, CHS senior Lonce Scott, juniors Cameron Beverly, Francisco Lopez and Jason White and sophomores Josiah Clark, Tyler Geyer and Kylan Willis were inducted into the Cheltenham Black Male Leadership Program on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Cheltenham Freshman Competes in Fencing Junior Olympics
CHS freshman and member of the Fencing Academy of Philadelphia, Naomi Hirsch competed at the Fencing Junior Olympics this past weekend in Memphis, Tennessee. “She did very well because she made it out of the rounds at her first championship tournament," said her coach Lara Masters. "She fenced solidly, and I expect to see her do even better next year.” Nationally rated in Epee (her weapon of choice) and Saber, Hirsch has been fencing competitively for six years and trains three days a week. She specializes in Epee, but also competes in Foil and Saber and competes regularly in local and regional competitions. She had a great time at the tournament, enjoying her teammates (including CHS junior fencer Afwé Griffin) and making friends from around the country she will see at future events.
Government Day in Cheltenham
Seven Glenside Elementary students received a glimpse into the inner workings of the township at Cheltenham’s Government Day Friday, Feb. 16. The students toured the Ogontz Fire House, police, emergency management services facilities and participated in an emergency management scenario.
CHS Students Excel at Brain Bee at UPenn
Raj Boominathan, Rebecca Banner, Venus Agbadan , Ifenna Amaefuna, Aaron Morein and Serena Sohmen represented Cheltenham in the annual Brain Bee at the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, Feb. 10. To ready themselves, the students read Brain Facts and prepared to answer neuroscience questions related to all functions and structures connected to the brain.
Wyncote Hosts Sweet Treat Ball
Sweet Treat Ball The Sweet Treat Ball took place at Wyncote on Saturday, Feb. 1O. The PTO invited families to come dressed in their best and bring their "sweeties" to dance the night away. The school was decorated with colorful streamers, balloons and sweet decorations. The Wyncote school community enjoyed a night filled with music, dancing, treats and lots of laughs. Thank you to the committee who organized a memorable family event for all.
CBK Students to Compete in Regional Science Olympiad
CBK Students Ready Experiments for PA Junior Academy of Science Regionals
Nearly 40 Cedarbrook Middle School students have qualified for the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) regionals Saturday, Feb. 24 at Souderton High School. Competing in categories such as behavioral psychology, zoology and engineering with experiments covering wifi, senses, minerals and memory, the 10 seventh graders, 25+ eighth graders the students will conduct scientific research projects then orally present their research to a team of judges. Staff Works on Mindful Relationships
On February 16, secretarial, custodial and maintenance staff relieved their stress and enhanced their well-being. In the morning, 12-month secretaries attended their second Mindful Relationships professional development session, during which they experienced SoulCollage with facilitator Shelley B. Goldberg. Local news media outlets covered this past Wednesday's annual African American History Bee at Wyncote, where second, third and fourth graders competed for trophies, gift cards and bragging rights. The competition challenges, entertains and teaches students about the rich tapestry of African Americans interwoven in the country’s fabric. Students answered questions from categories like law and education, sports and entertainment, politics and military and local Cheltenham history.
