Hall Happenings
September 2020
From Mrs. Wynne
We are off to a great start for the 2020-2021 school year! Students and teachers have been collaborating to create a positive working environment at Hall MS through relationship building activities and classroom relationship agreements. This week we have begun our academic focus as well and students are impressing us daily with their work ethic and commitment to success. Students are diligently wearing their masks and our janitorial staff is keeping our building wonderfully clean. It's going to be a great year!

Important Reminders
- Food: Students may eat a healthy snack in 2nd period and 6th period. Foods that are messy, sticky, or noisy will not be permitted.
- Water: Water fountains are not accessible at this time, but the bottle filling stations are on. Please be sure your student has access to a water bottle everyday. Other types of drinks will be allowed during lunch.
- Cell Phones: We are focused on the academic and social/emotional needs of students. In order to protect instructional time and provide a safe, nurturing environment for students we are asking that cellphones remain in backpacks throughout the school day.
- Passing Periods: Students are asked to use this time responsibly and take care of their personal needs during this time. We understand that students have different needs, and we are committed to meeting those needs. If a student needs to use the restroom during class, he/she will be allowed to do so.
Weatherford ISD Dress Code
HMS Parents,
We want you to know that we have spent time over the last week educating students on the WISD dress code. Starting on September 3rd, students will be required to follow to the WISD dress code fully. Please take time to review the policy below. We have underlined the most common areas of concern at HMS. For the remainder of the school year, students who are not in dress code will be asked to contact a parent to correct the dress code violation. Students will be asked to complete class work in ISS until the violation is corrected. Thank you, in advance, for helping us monitor our dress code policy! We appreciate your support!
Philosophy:
All students are expected to adhere to common practices of modesty, cleanliness, and neatness; to dress in a respectful manner within the acceptable standards of the community and in such a manner as to contribute to the academic atmosphere, not detract from it. Students who fail to comply with the dress code may be subject to disciplinary actions.
The principal or assistant principal has final judgment on whether or not a student is in compliance with the dress code.
Dress and grooming:
1. Shall not give school officials reason to believe that such dress or grooming will disrupt, interfere with, disturb, or detract from school activities
2. Shall not create a health or other hazard to the student's safety or to the safety of other students
Specific Requirements:
- Hair shall be neat, clean, and well groomed, and not obstruct the student’s vision or a view of the student’s face.
- Hair coloring and/or grooming that is deemed by the principal as a distraction shall be prohibited. Hair color must be a natural color. Ex: mohawks, liberty spikes, pink or green hair color, etc.
- Any clothing or accessory (belt) with improper fit (exceeding one size beyond correct size) shall not be allowed on campus. The waist of pants and shorts must be worn at the proper place of the anatomy and not low around the hips.
- Shorts or skirts must allow students to be able to stand, sit, and/or bend with modesty. Shorts and skirts must be “finger-tip length,” that is the length cannot be shorter than the level where the fingertips fall when the student’s hands are at his/her sides. Skirts featuring high slits above “finger-tip length” are not appropriate for school. Garments must have a finished, stitched hem. Manufactured boot-cut slits are acceptable. Rips in jeans that are above the fingertip length area will be considered a violation. Rips or holes that expose large areas of skin will not be permitted.
- Shirts that show the bare midriff when the student’s hands are extended above the head are not permitted.
- All shirts must have sleeves. Tank tops are not permitted.
- Pajamas and/or sleepwear are not permitted.
- Shirts and blouses shall be appropriately buttoned. Low-cut sundresses, sheer blouses, see-through blouses, or any clothing that exposes undergarments and/or breast cleavage is prohibited.
- Shoes, boots, or sandals are to be worn. House shoes/slippers may not be worn. Steel-toed boots, cleats, skates, shoes with rollers, spikes, taps, and/or boots or shoes with sharp studs are not allowed.
- Clothing, accessories, and/or belongings featuring pictures, emblems, or writings that promote inappropriate subjects such as death, suicide, racism, gang-related attire and the occult are not permitted. Neither may clothing, accessories, and/or belongings advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or any prohibited substances or activities. Messages that are lewd, offensive, vulgar, inappropriately suggestive, or obscene are not appropriate. Shirts, backpacks, clothing, accessories, and/or other possessions that depict or name groups, whether real or fictional, that are well known for promoting illegal activities, including but not limited to murder, rape, suicide, sexual references, drug usage, etc., shall not be worn.
- Tight-fitting clothing is not permitted without a covering garment that when worn alone meets the other guidelines of this dress code. This may include but not be limited to: camisoles, leggings, biking shorts/tights (spandex), or athletic/athletic-type girdle.
- No jewelry or trinket that is noisy and/or promotes undue distraction in the school environment shall be permitted.
- No “chains” (including wallet chains) are allowed.
- Spiked jewelry and mouth “grillz” shall not be permitted.
- Sunglasses and hair curlers are not appropriate.
- Piercings are restricted to the ear and a small stud in the nose.
- “Gauging” of the ears, or any part of the body, is prohibited.
- Hats, caps, beanies, bandannas, sweatbands, or other head covering apparel are not allowed in the building.
- No trench coats or dusters.
- Facial hair must be neatly trimmed and clean.
*Please be advised that masks, backpacks, shoes, belt buckles, purses, clothing and any other school supplies must adhere to the WISD dress code.
QUARANTINE COURSEWORK (IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION ONLY)
- If a student is “quarantined”, the student is still responsible for keeping up with all coursework daily through Canvas. If a student fails to work daily while in quarantine, the student will be considered absent.
- Work assigned while in quarantine needs to be turned in through Canvas or it will be considered a “0”. The only exception to this rule is if the quarantine is the result of an official diagnosis and sickness.
Academic Support and Intervention
8th Grade Reading Intervention Classes:
If your student is in an 8th grade Reading Intervention Class with Mrs. Lancaster, his/her schedule will likely change once beginning of the year testing is complete. We anticipate this change will take place within the first few weeks of school.
Transportation
CAR RIDERS:
- Pick up and drop off your student in their designated grade level area. Younger siblings can enter and exit the building with older siblings.
- For students' safety, please ensure your student is being dropped off and picked up from the passenger side of the vehicle.
- Please move slowly and always check mirrors and surroundings when changing lanes.
*There is a change to the flow of traffic for Charles St. after school pick up.
6th and 8th grade drivers will use the right lane and 7th grade Athletics will use the left.
