The Tigua's of Texas

Where did the Tigua live? What kind of dwelling did they live in?
What did the Tigua tribe eat? How was their food obtained?
The Tigua grew corn, squash, and beans. The men also hunted deer, rabbits, antelope, bear, and any meat they could find. The women and children would collect berries when they were in season. The Tigua were hunter-gatherers but then also grew crops as well.
Culture and Religion
The Tigua's had special religious ceremonies that had to be done at each stage of the farming season. They had a lot of dances for the different stages. Their religion was that they believed they got everything from nature, so they worshiped it. They believed in many gods, which means they are polytheistic.
Weapons and Tools
The Tigua used spears and bows & arrows to hunt and kill. In war they used war clubs as well.
Organization of Leadership and Tigua Now
The Tigua had a chief called a Cacique. Also had a war chief. These two positions hold the dances that take place now. The Tigua are still alive today. The Tigua people still have ceremonies and religious activities to respect the ancestors. the Tigua now live in El Paso in the Mountains and Basins Region.
Unique Facts
The Tigua were thought to be extinct until the 1960s when they started claiming land they had lost. Famous for their pottery. One of the more peaceful tribes.
