Where the Adventure Begins...
HAPPY FRIDAY!!
Happy Friday, ECS Families! Who is ready for spring break?!! We are definitely looking forward to getting some extra time with our families and to recharge so we can come back and finish the year strong for your little ones!
A couple months ago the Statewide Director from TEA contacted me and said she had heard about our school. She called and asked if she could come see it for herself! She and 2 others from TEA came and spent the day with us. They were so impressed that they did a feature article on our school! It's in the above newsletter and goes out to early childhood schools all over Texas! We are so proud to have been highlighted! Just click on TEA above and it will take you to the newsletter!
Our next round of academic checklists and progress reports will be coming home March 28th. It's always fun for us to reflect on how much each child has progressed this year.
As we go into spring break, I hope you all are able to capture extra time with your precious children to make memories, spend quality time, and just cherish each other. We are so grateful for you and your families. Have a wonderful week and we'll see you back here March 18th!

Interested in Helping with Teacher Appreciation Week?
One of our sweet parents is organizing some staff events for the 2018-19 “Teacher Appreciation Week” which is May 6th - 10th. She is seeking parent volunteers to help in various ways. If you would like to be a part of the appreciation team, please contact
Courtnee Cruz Harden by email at courtneecruz12@gmail.com. Thank you so much!
Got a Sickie?!
If your child is not well- please keep them home.
Please be specific when reporting your child’s absence. Don’t say sick or ill, please give details such as : fever, Flu, cough and cold, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.
It makes it so much easier to know when we need to deep clean classrooms when parents give details regarding absences.
When you send an email that your child will be out, please include your child's FIRST AND LAST NAME. With over 970 students, this is critical. Thank you!
ECS Parent's Place
I love to make sure you this easy way to ask questions, share suggestions, and let us know what we're doing well!
Here is the link to the ECS Parent Place! It's an online "bulletin board" where you can post anything. I'll also post my responses. You can post or just pop in to see what other's are posting!

The Counselor Corner
Is your family ready for a new pet? Here are some things to consider from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry before getting a pet:
· Consider getting a pet your child can help care for
· Children under 3 or 4 years old need to be monitored around pets
· Children under 10 are unable to be completely responsible for a pet
· Parents should monitor children even if they thing the children are mature enough to be alone with a pet
· Understand that as a parent you may have to care for the pet if the child forgets to or loses interest
· If a child does forget to care for a pet, gentle reminders are more effective than scolding
· When a child consistently avoids or forgets to help with pet duties, then it’s time to consider a new home for the pet
· Like many other parenting tips, model responsible behavior with the pet
There are many benefits for children when they become pet owners. A child who has a positive relationship with his/her pet can help develop healthy relationship with others. It can aid in helping the child understand empathy, compassion, and build strong communication skills. There are many advantages of pet ownership which support emotional and physical development.
