Calling for Donations to the Friendship Room!
This time of year many families start clearing out toys and other items that kids are no longer playing with at home. If the item is in good condition, please consider donating it to our Friendship Room. Our Friendship Room is open every day during lunch and is an alternative place for our Panthers to play with the support of staff.
We are looking for a foosball table, building toys, imagination play sets (castles, western town, etc), art supplies, bean bags in good condition, games, puzzles(with all the pieces), and more. We cannot accept toys that make noise. require batteriers, or are combative.
If you would like to make a donation of items for our Friendship Room, please contact kharvick@tvusd.us to arrange a time we are open to drop the items off. Thank you for your consideration!
Paloma Panthers are THRIVERS!
During the month of November, we will be learning about Integrity!
Helping your kids develop their own moral identity is an important part of developing integrity.
Laying out your family's expectations is a big part of building integrity, but it is also important to give your children space to develop their own moral integrity. When children interact socially with their peers, they are naturally exposed to the morals of others. In that process they will most likely question the reasons behind the actions of others. Being a non-judgemental listener when your children questions or report on these actions is huge. When they feel free to express their observations or ask questions, then you can use those opportunitites to guide their thinking, and in turn help them develop their own moral identity.
In her book, Michele Borba says that you can "drive home the moral lesson" by using the four Rs of moral discipline:
R#1: RESPOND: Calmly help your child think about their actions or the actions of others.
R#1: REVIEW: Review your own family's expectations and evaluate whether the actions your child exhibited or experienced were in line with your family's expecations. If not, how were they different? Is there something to learn from this or maybe even to add to your own set of expectations.
R#3: REFLECT: Reflect on the effects of the behavior or actions. Think and talk about the outcome. How did each person involved feel? Were they happy with the outcome? Could the actions have been changed to provide a different outcome? If so, how?
R#4: RIGHT: Right the Wrong. Finally help your child figure out how to improve next time so that the behavior doesn't occur again. Ask, "What will you do next time" or "What should your friend do next time?" Working with them to help them make a plan during these moments will prepare them for the future.
Next week we will learn more about Intergrity
from Michele Borba's book, Thrivers.
Safety at Arrival and Dismissal
Let's keep all Panthers safe at school!
When using the loop to pick up or drop off your child by car, PLEASE.....
- Only park in appropriate areas. The pick up loop can be a very busy place, especially on modified days. However, it is important to remember to only park in designated parking spaces. Please do not park along curbs that are painted red or in handicap spots unless you have a handicap placard. If there is not parking available when you arrive, you will need to park on the street and walk to meet your child or join the pick up loop. If you are parked in these areas, you will be asked to move.
- Always use the crosswalks.
- Do not use the parking lot as an additional pick-up line. This blocks access to parking spaces, including handicap spots. If there is not an open parking spot, please pull through and go around again to look for an opening or join the loop pick up line.
- Stay in your car when using the loop. If your child needs assistance entering or exiting the car, please park in the lot and walk them to their gate.
- Move all the way forward as directed by the school staff.
- In the morning, do not wait until your child reaches the gate to pull away. Staying in the loop and watching your child walk in through the gate, slows the flow of traffic. If you would like to watch your child enter the gate, please park your car and walk your child.
- At dismissal, do not stop in the loop and wait for your child to come your direction, instead pull up when there is space to pull forward. Pull all the way forward and continue to move forward with the traffic. Your child will walk down towards you.
We appreciate your continued cooperation and patience.
