Cedar Grove Friday Flash
September 22, 2017
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
Thank you to all the parents who came out to our Back to School Night for our students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades! It's hard to believe we are already moving into fall and our fourth week of school!
Please take some time to review the information below as well as note some upcoming events. There will be a Volunteer Training next Wednesday, September 27 at 10:00 a.m. following the Kindergarten Coffee Chat, which will be at 9:30 a.m. Both meetings will take place in the All Purpose Room. If you are able to attend, you will have the opportunity to take a tour and learn more about how you can help at the school. At our PTA meeting on Tuesday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m., Ms. Karina Hirschhorn, our Media Specialist, will present important information about the new Parent Portal, which will provide parents with access to view a variety of important information about their child. We hope you will be able to attend.

Converting to Heat
With the official start of Fall, we must start thinking about changing leaves, changing weather, and……heat. The conversion from air conditioning to heat will begin on October 2 and will take several weeks; however, the schedule may be adjusted depending on the weather forecast in late September. During this time, there may be days when neither service is available. In addition, students will be going outside regularly for recess, PE, and curriculum-based activities. Please check the forecast daily and send your child to school dressed for the weather. If you would like to learn more about the conversion, a flyer is posted on the school website to share the process in greater detail.
Fan Friday is Back!
Our Fan Friday began today and will last approximately ten weeks. It is designed to bring everyone together as a team, have fun, and show good sportsmanship. Please encourage your child to wear a jersey or sport shirt every Friday. Teams or classes with the highest Fan Friday percentages will receive The Golden Football. There will be a K-2nd grade winner and a 3-5th grade winner. At the end of the ten weeks, the two teams or classes with the most footballs will play each other in the championship game.
Hallie Wells Presents Screening, Most Likely to Succeed
Hallie Wells Middle School is hosting a screening of Most Likely To Succeed on Tuesday, October 10th at 7:00 p.m. Following the viewing of the documentary, school staff will be holding a brief discussion about the documentary. Tickets are $5.00 each. Additional information can be found by viewing the flyer on our website. To reserve a seat, please click the link found on the flyer.
The Germantown Library is 10 Years Old!
The Germantown Library will be hosting its 10th anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be a variety of fun events and giveaways for people of all ages including stories, jazz band entertainment, free face painting, and a scavenger hunt for kids. For additional information, visit the website at montgomerycountymd.gov/library or call 240-777-0110.
PARCC Score Reports
Student score reports from the 2016-2017 Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) were sent home to parents of current fourth and fifth grade students this week. A parent guide was included to assist parents in understanding their child's scores. If your child did not receive PARCC scores, and he or she did not attend Cedar Grove Elementary School last year, your child's former school should be contacted for scores. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. German at the school. Thank you.
