Brennen Media Center Newsletter
Nows the time to begin video conferencing with other schools! This week we will have a VC between a kindergarten class here at Brennen and NASA, as well as a 4th grade ELA class and Caughman Road Elementary School!
You will be inundated!!!!
I will begin going through information about video conferences and sending that to you via email. I will try to stay within standards for grade, but sometimes I spot something that just looks like it would be "fun, " too.
If you want to be able to look through video conference information on your own, just go to www.cilc.org and sign up for your free info. Collaborations are the best and are almost always free. Content provider programs cost, but that doesn't mean you can't do it. It just means you need to ask Mark about the $!
Just one idea
Video conferencing is really just a way to have your students "show off" what they have learned, so when February rolls around, and your students have studied famous Americans, why not let them show off their costumes, posters, etc. to another school?
I created the media center schedule this year to incorporate times for videoconferencing and other special projects. It is not WRITTEN IN STONE, but the times I have made "sacred" to each grade are:
kindergarten and 1st have a bit more "wiggle room" since they don't change classes.
If you find a great VC, Please let me know ASAP, so that I can adjust anything that needs adjusting.
Start out small. Collaborate with a class at Satchel Ford, Meadowfield, Rosewood, etc. (Actually, I can time it so that we can "do" 4 schools at once, although that takes a bit of orchestrating!!!!)
Show off the puppets/books, etc you made for the Visual Literacy Contest.
Read poems to another class during/after a poetry unit
Have stong readers (5th graders, maybe) read to a kindergarten at another school. (Wouldn't that be fun for March 2, Dr. Seuss Birthday?!
Just don't forget to contact me so that I can set things up for you. Nancy Swanson is fantastic with this.
