LSC aims to create transformational opportunities for scholars across Sumter (SC) through a rigorous "whole scholar" approach. Our personalized learning academies will position us as a leader for educational equity in the country, and, in time, will harness their collective impact to meet the needs of thousands of historically underserved students in Sumter. Our model is innovative and unlike any other locally available. Key distinguishing features include a high-quality standards-based curriculum, longer school day & year, significant exposure to enrichment activities, two teachers in all classrooms with smaller classroom sizes, a comprehensive MTSS model to ensure the needs of all scholars are being met, extended day activities, and an innovative high school model with a set of learning PATHWAYS designed to link project-based learning and student connections to STEAM career pathways.

LSC's academic calendar reflects the core design principle that recognizes the importance of more time on task - not just for our scholars, but for our teachers as well! With an extended school day & year, our academic calendar matches the same extended breaks within the local traditional school district to include Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Break Holidays. An additional fall break & spring intercession is built into the calendar allowing for a four-day weekend in between these breaks to further allow our scholars and teachers to recharge. In addition to weekly early release on Wednesdays, one day each month is set aside for school-wide professional development with no scholar attendance. All instructional and operational staff members are employed under a 210-day work agreement.

LSC's Primary Academy will be housed at 15 School Street in South Sumter. The site is currently undergoing a major renovation project and will soon be transformed into a world-class educational facility that will serve our scholars in grades K-2. The building boasts nearly 24,000 square feet, 11 classrooms, an administrative suite of offices, a cafeteria, and much more. We are working closely with the Office of School Facilities at the SC Department of Education and the SC Public Charter School District to ensure all is on track for a ribbon-cutting in early July!
