An Educator's Quote for the Week...
Titan of the Week & The Minnie Howie Award
Titan of the Week:
The Titan of the Week is Mr. Matthews!!
Mr. Matthews was caught rocking his Titan Gear on Titan Pride Friaday!!! Thank you Mr. Matthews for showing your Titan Pride and School Spirit!!!
Please enjoy the Titan of the Week premium parking spot in the front lot! :)
How can you get the Titan of the Week Upper Lot Award? It is easy! Just wear Titan Gear or college wear on Fridays and your name will be entered into a drawing that morning. Each week in Ms Wood's Week-At-Glance the next week's winner will be announced.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Minnie Howie the Roaming Gnome Award will be presented next week due to the short week.
Goes to.... Ms. V. Ignacio, who will it be???????
If you were wondering...
What is the Minnie Howie Roaming Gnome Award?
This award gives us another way to recognize and celebrate each other. Minnie Howie is passed on from person to person each week.
What do you do when you receive the Minnie Howie Roaming Gnome Award?
Prominently display the award in your classroom or office. You can even brag a bit and carry Minnie Howie with you when you travel the building.
When and how do you pass Minnie Howie to the next awesome colleague?
At the end of the week, write up a short celebration blurb in which you name the next awardee and share a few things about him/her that you want to recognize and share. Send the blurb to Ms Wood for her Sunday "Week-at-a-Glance." On Monday morning, deliver Minnie Howie to the awardee.
And the cycle continues...
Brought to you by Titans Succeed / Renaissance Committee in appreciation of all that you do to make this a great place to work and learn.
Shout Out to the Entire Minnie Howard Staff
Jan. 17th: Minnie Howard Science Fair
On Tuesday, January 17th, from 8:40-10:00 AM, the STEM Academy will be holding it's first ever Minnie Howard Science Fair in the cafeteria. There will be 4, 20 minute poster sessions in that time frame. Almost 100 students will have an opportunity to present their projects to small groups of students and staff. If you have that period off, we would love for you to come down for any part of the fair. Our students have worked extremely hard creating a presentation out of their formal science fair papers and are very excited to share their findings.
If you are new to ACPS or are not familiar with our science curriculum, all Honors Biology classes participate in Intel's International Science and Engineering Fair. If you have witnessed students walking around with tri-fold boards this week, it was most likely for science fair. Congrats to all of our students at MH for completing their projects this week. We have so many amazing and innovative students and it's inspiring to walk around and see what students have developed on their own. From designing websites, applications, building robots, bridges, and solving environmental problems, science fair really does bring out the best in our students. For all the science teachers and other staff members who helped students go through this process, major kudos for all your efforts. Students wouldn't have made it without your support.
Have a nice weekend everyone! If you get a chance to stop by on Tuesday morning, we would love to have you.
Thanks,
Ben Matthews
From Our TIS
We definitely need your support and input through the LMS review process. If you haven't already done so, please take a minute to check out the webinars provided for the possible new LMS and provide some feedback. All this information can be found at: https://www.acpsk12.org/lms/
Additionally, as you are wrapping up Quarter 2 and planning lessons for Quarter 3, this is an excellent time to step out on a ledge and take some risk with utilizing technology in your classroom. The TCTIS team is here to support you as you step up to the challenge of trying something new. Many tools, such as Formative and Quizizz are now integrating with Google Classroom. And now Google Classroom has stepped up to offer teachers more control over differentiating instruction to their students. If you are interested and would like to set up an appointment to discuss a lesson plan idea, or share what you are already doing, please email me or TCTIS.
Looking Ahead... Data Chats
- We will NOT have a January Data Chat.
- Data Chats will resume the week of February 6-10 to prepare for the February Governance Mtg.
- Between now and our next data chat, your department should meet to go through the Collaborative Analysis of Student Work sheet using a common formative assessment.
- Unit assessment data should be updated and grade data should be available. Please make sure your department is continuously monitoring, updating and analyzing your data to make informed lesson decisions. Our discussion will revolve around where students are after a semester and what interventions are in place or need to be in place to elicit student achievement and success.
