3/29/20 Excellence in all we do!
We wait...
Good afternoon all,
I think the most telling statement of the week was Dr. Anthony Fauci, when asked about the nation's timeline, “You’ve got to be realistic, and you’ve got to understand that you don’t make the timeline, the virus makes the timeline.”
Personally, I think my biggest struggle is trying to wrap my head around how long this is going to last. If I knew that we were going to be locked down for 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks - whatever the length was - I would be able to focus on the end. But I struggle with not knowing if we'll be locked down for 2 more weeks - or is this going to affect football season(it better not - this is the year the Chicago Bears are going to win the Super Bowl!!!)?
But I go back to an amazing book that I read several years ago - Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell - and some advice he was taught going through the extremely challenging training to become a Navy SEAL, and a lesson taught by one of the trainers:
“One time during Indoc while we were out on night run, one of the instructors actually climbed up the outside of a building, came through an open window, and absolutely trashed a guy’s room, threw everything everywhere, emptied detergent over his bed gear. He went back out the way he’d come in, waited for everyone to return, and then tapped on the poor guy’s door and demanded a room inspection. The guy couldn’t work out whether to be furious or heartbroken, but he spent most of the night cleaning up and still had to be in the showers at 0430 with the rest of us. I asked Reno about this weeks later, and he told me, “Marcus, the body can take near anything. It’s the mind that needs training. The question that guy was being asked involved mental strength. Can you handle such injustice? Can you cope with that kind of unfairness, that much of a setback? And still come back with your jaw set, still determined, swearing to God you will never quit? That’s what we’re looking for.”
― Marcus Luttrell, Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10
I'll never forget that part of the book(the book is WAY better than the movie, by the way!), and I try to apply it to my life. We cannot control what's happening, but it's our job to be there for our students, and no matter what the challenge, we are going to do our best.
So here's what we are working on this week...our biggest challenge is reaching everyone one of our students and making sure that they can get online - whether that is a device or internet. If we move to an online learning environment, we have to make sure that all of our kids are taken care of. Many of our teachers are doing online meetings just to talk to our students, which has been great. I've sat in on a few of those and it's been great to see everyone.
Each one of our teachers has a Google Classroom set up(the class codes are below), so please make sure your students has accessed each of their teachers classes. They should be really good at this, but if they need help, just let us know. All new extensions will go onto Google Classrooms this week - including daily workouts for PreAthletics and Athletics! Learning supports are still optional at this point, but we really want to make sure we are not losing the skills we've worked hard to get as we are working our way through this unrivaled crisis.
We are all in this together, so please don't hesitate to let us know if you need anything.
Miss everyone a lot,
Mr. Holt
Google Classrooms and Email Addresses
Here are student logins for Google Classroom. Some classrooms are set up by period, others are set up by Grade Level. I know this list may be overwhelming, but just keep it is a reference and go back to it as needed. Remember - these are STUDENT logins! If a parent would like to access, please talk to the teacher to get the parent login. Also, remember that some of these are brand new, and we are creating them as we speak, so please give us a little grace as we move to a digital classroom. All assignments are enrichment and optional at this point, and no grades will be taken.
Important Note - Your students may be enrolled in many of these classes already! Go through your student's schedule to see which classes are new.

We created this Google Classroom so that we can stay in touch with our students - feel free to sign up. If you need anything from us, this is a great place to start.
