Students win again!
The highlight of the game may have been when Payton Rose scored the first goal of the game against her dad, Mr. Rose. However, Mr. Rose may disagree.
Win or lose, it was a lot of fun competing with such a great group of students. We will be back, ready to win, next year!
The 5k is next Sunday!
Whittier Middle School’s Tri-Town Family 5K will return to Minot’s beautiful trails and fields on Sunday, November 13th at 10:00am. Join us as we celebrate 11 YEARS! Please register in advance on the race website, Tri-Town Family 5K website.
Planning to register at the event? Please come early. We will have a Kids Fun Run at 9:30 for children who aren't ready to run 5K just yet.
T-shirts will be on sale for $15. You can pay with cash, check or Venmo.
Mrs. Edwards: From the Chorus Room
The Whittier Chorus has been such a joy to teach this year. We have incredibly talented singers who are hard-working, humble, and fun! They have been tackling one of the most difficult pieces I've ever programmed with a middle school chorus and they are doing a fantastic job.
One thing we started this week is a weekly self-reflection rubric, where students think on their class participation, readiness, and citizenship for the week and assign themselves a grade. You will see these start to pop up in JumpRope. If you see a grade that is lower than you would expect, have no fear! These students tend to grade themselves pretty hard, but they know exactly how to aim higher for the next week, and they will have many chances to do this. As always please connect with me if you have any questions or concerns. I am excited for students to have the opportunity to be reflective in their music learning, and they'll gain so much authorship and musicianship from it!
A gentle reminder that our concert is December 14th at 7pm in the auditorium with the Concert Band, and is open and free to the public. Hope to see you there! Thanks for supporting your Whittier musicians.

Scholastic Book Fair in the Library!
The library will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair November 7th through November 14th! The book fair will be open each day (except for Veteran's Day, 11/11) with lots of late afternoon hours. There will be lots of great books and other merchandise! Visit our book fair homepage for more information, to preview book fair books, and to set up eWallet (a cash-free way for your child to shop the book fair!) If you choose not to set up eWallet, we still take cash, checks, and credit cards! All book fair profits help support our middle school reading challenge and our high school co-curricular book club!
If you have any questions or need help setting up an eWallet account, please contact Julie Purdy in the library by email at jpurdy@rsu16.org or by phone 207-998-5400, ext. 210.

Basketball
There will be a practice schedule released each week for basketball in the Whittier Wire. Please be sure to check to confirm practice times.
Basketball practices, and cuts if necessary, will begin Monday, November 7. It is imperative that candidates are signed up on FamilyID ahead of time and that they have an updated physical on file with the nurse or Mr. King.
Students must go home before practice if their practice starts after 3:30. There is no supervision available for students to wait at school for their practice to begin. Students should not wait at McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, etc. Students should not return to the building more than 10-15 minutes before their practice begins. Thank you.
