Use of washers to achieve better fastening in engineering components

All products and machines use bolts and nuts are the primary fastening method for components. Bolts are more ubiquitous than any other method since they are cheap, economical and can be unfastened with ease during repair and maintenance. Plastic bolts are common in many products and these require plastic and rubber washers.

The washer is an integral and imperative part of bolt nut assembly. Billion of washers are manufactured each year and come in different sizes and shapes.

The DIN125 washer is one of the most versatile washers. It conforms to the DIN 125, ISO 7089/7090 specifications and can be used with metric screw threads (M2, M4, M6, M8 etc). The plastic type is plain washer used for fastening, locking and as a spacer. It resembles an annual ring with the internal and external diameter as well as length made to different measurements.

Specialized washers

These are designed for advanced and special fastening purposes. Saddle washers are used for joining round tubes or non flat surfaces where a flat washer cannot be applied. They prevent rotation of the bolt while securing, sealing and locking the bolt.

The plastic finishing washers are specially designed to insulate the bolt as well as protect it from damage. It also provides locking and sealing operations. Other specialized washers include self centering bond seal washers that provide advanced and air tight sealing as well as eliminate seal offset.

This is a great innovative solution to the problem of economically holding and clamping materials. The PVC or rubbery material is pressed against a wall or a glass plane removing air and creating a partial vacuum. The action of air pressure against vacuum holds the cap in position. Materials, prints and other components can be attached to it.

Fastening and clamping of hose pipes is imperative to ensure that liquids and air at high pressure does not leak. Flexible hoses used to convey water and other pipes can be effectively joined using specially designed T bolt clamps. Their special design allow for easy joining and fastening since they have adjustable diameters. They are flexible, have high strength, adjustable to different pipe diameters, reliable and affordable. There can be easily customized to client’s specifications on diameter, material, clamping method and standards.

Types and essential features of hose clamps

There are various types of hose clamps. They differ in materials and type of operation. Their main feature is an adjustable diameter to allow for slipping and fastening on the hose pipes. Various methods are used to adjust the diameter. Plastic clamps have interlocking teeth that reduce the diameter and self lock once pushed. The steel clamp on the other hand holds the two portions of inter-joined hose pipes. They have rubber materials for cushioning against very high pressure. The worm drive hose clamp uses the rotation of the screw to adjust the diameter and therefore fasten the pipes.
