"Play is the highest form of research." - Albert Einstein
Dear parents and community members,
Yesterday, Warren School participated with the other Region 6 Elementary Schools and with PK-12 schools from around the world in Global School Play Day 2017 (GSPD) and enjoyed some unstructured play time. Hundreds of thousands of students in fifty nations on six continents participated this year.
According to researcher Dr. Sergio Pellis, "the experience of play changes the connections of neurons at the front end of your brain." Dr. Pellis says that these changes play a critical role in children's ability to problem solve, negotiate, make plans, and regulate emotions through complex social interactions. Play “prepares a young brain for life, love and even schoolwork.”
What did your children’s teachers think about the experience? Here are a few quotes:
“When my students are given the opportunity to have unstructured play, they continue to explore and challenge themselves to learn and make new discoveries completely on their own.”
“Opening the door to free play helped me see the children as children! They are imaginative, inventive, individual and social! What a gift!”
“There was so much creative freedom!”
It is my hope that this day of extended play will inspire our children to plan for more unstructured play during their after school hours. Click on this photo album link to view some photos from the day.

Community Service Award
The Secretary of the State, Denise W. Merrill and the Connecticut Citizenship Fund, Inc. will be recognizing students throughout Connecticut who have made a difference within their community. In support of this wonderful effort, Region 6 elementary schools will each recognize one student from 5th or 6th grade for this award. Students will be given additional information about the application process by their school principal.

Seeds of Dreams Seed CO
Created by the Warren School Fifth and Sixth Grade 2016
The mission of Seeds of Dreams Seed CO is to provide organic, raw, nutritional Harvest of Dreams sunflower seeds and reach out to help others in need. Through the purchase of the seed packets, our plan is to continue our support to local soup kitchens and food banks and to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) through donations raised.
This project was started and coordinated by 6th graders. All K-6 students are helping to weigh seeds and make packets.
We hope you'll support this project by purchasing seeds using this order form.
