KERBY NEWSLETTER
MARCH 6, 2020
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Kerby Families,
- Write down your questions before the meeting and prioritize the questions are most important to you.
- Let your child's teacher know ahead of time if there is anything specific you hope to talk about- that way they can tailor the conference to best address your questions or concerns.
- Don't be shy! If your child's teacher is using educational jargon or discussing test results and you aren't clear on the meaning- ask for clarification.
- Ask your child what they think should be discussed. Be prepared to update your kiddo after that conference.
- A parent-teacher conference is often the start of a conversation, not the end. If you feel like 15 minutes is not sufficient time or there are more concerns to discuss, set up a follow up meeting with your child's teacher.
Education is a shared commitment between dedicated teachers, motivated students and enthusiastic parents with high expectations -- Bob Beauprez

OFFICE NEWS
March 10th Election Day Lunch Procedures
Please note the following changes for March 10, 2020 to allow for Kerby to be used a polling location.
In talking with Derrick Kozicki, Grosse Pointe Farms City Clerk, we will only need half the gym and one open door during the school day for voting. Rebecca Fannon will be stationed at the front door to assist with voter traffic and help monitor people entering and exiting the building. As Kerby has done during previous elections, lunch procedures will be slightly modified to accommodate a smaller gym and prevent students from interacting with voters. Grades 3-5 will eat in the cafeteria while grades K-2 will eat in their classrooms. You are welcome to check your child out for lunch that day or come to Kerby to volunteer to support during our lunch and recess.
Best defense in cold and flu season
To prevent the spread of viruses such as the flu, common cold and coronavirus the Michigan Department of Education and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services recommend:
- Remain at home if you are sick and avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover cough with a tissue or sleeve. Provide adequate supplies within easy reach, including tissues and no-touch trash cans.
- Routinely clean frequently touched surfaces.
The schools are doing everything they can to keep students and staff engaged in the learning process while mitigating the spread of infections. Thank you for partnering with us!
RE-VERIFICATION OF RESIDENCY FOR CURRENT 4th AND 5th GRADE STUDENTS
It's time for re-verification. As we all know the parents of our fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth-grade students will need to verify at 389 before August 1, 2020. The earlier the better for parents to come in and verify, no Lines!!
