From the Desk of Pastor Linda
Tis the season of organizing and using large rubber totes as we have moved past the Christmas season and Epiphany! Most likely you have packed up the ornaments and decorations and have taken a deep breath that all the red and green is put away. I find it curious listing to folks talk about and compare notes as to “when should the tree come down” or statements reflecting the many rubber storage tubs that have still not made their way to the basement. We are funny people, moving quickly through one event only to get to the next one which will push us to the next one or as this year we even get to “leap” into March as there will be a February 29th, 2020, a Leap year.
This idea of one event or day moving us to the next has been on my mind this week as we continue our sermon series on the gift of Sabbath. I would think we can all agree we lead busy lives moving from one day to the next often in a blur! How often our Sundays are about packing in the many things on our to do list, or running those errands before the next week begins and then using what is left of Sunday to relax and rest so one my “make it through” the next week. We forget that the REST we are offered on the Sabbath is the gift God has provided and Jesus has important information for us to digest and practice.
I am amazed at the many questions that I have about the Sabbath as we begin this journey. I hope like myself, you take some special time to think about the gift of Sabbath that God has provided for us. This week we will be listening and thinking about “Jesus, Lord of the Sabbath”. As the youth would say in their vernacular, What’s that even mean?”
We will see you Sunday to look at the Sabbath through the understanding and love of Jesus.
Peace to you all!
Pastor Linda

Thank you
We just want to express our gratitude for all the support the church family has extended during Joyce's illness and rehab and then Ron’s Mom's passing, including the choir, Stephen ministers and the Deacons. It has been very uplifting and a great blessing to receive cards, flowers, food and personal notes.
Blessings,
Ron and Joyce Kilbourne

Slaying the Giants in your Life
You can win the battle and live victoriously!
by Dr. David Jeremiah
Wednesdays,10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Listen! Can you hear thundering footsteps approaching? The Bible warns us of "giants in the land" -- and whether they're literal like Goliath or figurative ones like failure, fear, worry, guilt, anger, temptation, resentment or doubt, their goal is the same: to crush God's people.
Do you need the tools to slay these daunting foes? David Jeremiah shows you from scripture how to stand up to these bullies and win -- with God's help. These are daunting giants, but thankfully we have access to God's Word, which is a wealth of knowledge, encouragement, and power. We are not weak - we are empowered!
In each class, we'll watch a DVD message by Dr. Jeremiah, then discuss the day's topic. Each session stands on its own, so please join us when you can for this eight week study. Everyone is welcome.
Please contact Bonnie Horner, 248-880-2327 or bnnhrn@yahoo.com to sign up.
Per Capita
Per capita is a fundamental way in which all Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregations support the work of the wider Church.
Each year it costs OLCC,P over $30 for each member. When the full amount is not covered by the congregation, the money comes out of our Mission Budget. If all of the members of OLCC,P would prayerfully consider paying their own family’s per capita, it would allow your Mission Team to have more to give to others in need.
The 2020 Per Capita offering is $30.55 per OLCC,P member. To provide your per capita online, please visit the OLCC,P website, select the “Giving” tab, select “Donate Online” found on the top right side of the page, and follow
the instructions.
(If you use offering envelopes, a Per Capita envelope is included.)

Xpujil 2020 is a Go!
We have a team of seven who will be travelling to Xpujil, Mexico from February 25 - March 3 to come alongside Mexican villagers to help build cisterns for a safe source of drinking water for their families. There's room for three or four more people on the team; if you've been thinking this is something you'd like to do, we're more than happy to have you.
The week includes four "work days", an opportunity to visit local Mayan ruins and other sights of interest, getting to know the family of Todd Luke's wife Maria, who feed us wonderfully, worshiping on Sunday with the Presbyterians in Xpujil (in the church OLCC,P helped build), and an afternoon and evening of "r and r" in Playa del Carmen, before flying home from Cancun. If you're interested in going, or just want more information, please contact Dodie Berry (248-363-4471).
