Spring 2018 TELPAS Results
Students in Texas who are designated as Limited English Proficient (LEP) were assessed in the Spring for progress in learning the English language using the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS). This assessment system measures proficiency levels in reading, listening, writing, and speaking. TELPAS is administered to all LEP students - including LEP students who do not participate in a bilingual or English as a second language (ESL) program because of parental denial.
To access the results of the Spring 2018 TELPAS:
· Go to the Texas Assessment Data Portal http://texasassessment.com
· Click on Find My Access Code in the purple box.
· The parent/guardian will then be prompted to enter in:
§ Student’s First Name
§ Social Security Number or S-Number (State issued ID Number)
§ Date of Birth
· Use this Access Code to log in and see assessment history for a student.

What We Are Learning!
Science - We have begun a unit on environment and organisms. Next week our students will be making terrariums. Our Science class needs: empty and clean 2 liter soda bottles, potting soil and gravel. You can send these items to school with your child if you would like to donate.
Reading/LA and Social Studies - We finished reading The Phantom Tollbooth and culminated with several projects that you will be able to few at Open house. When the students return from spring break they will review for the upcoming Staar test.

Homework and Agenda
Each teacher posts her agenda online weekly for students and parents to access. If your child wishes to copy down their assignments in an agenda it, that is fine but there will not be class time given. Teachers will go over any weekly homework with students at the beginning of the week.
Reading: It is the teacher's expectation that Reading homework is given nightly because your child should be reading every night at home and writing responses periodically in class about what they are reading. In addition to this, students can take home unfinished station work on Thursday night to complete at home if they are falling behind.
Vocabulary - There is usually a vocabulary test every other week. We use a program called "Wordly Wise," so you may see that written in your child's agenda. A Quizlet is typically posted on the Google Classroom to help students study.
Science - Students typically do not have Science homework, though they are expected to study their notebooks for occasional quizzes and tests. These test dates will be updated on the newsletter.
Morning Drop Off
Dropping off before 7:30am. Students can immediately enter through the gym door in the front and wait with teachers and their grade level for the 7:30am bell to ring. There is much less traffic at 7:20am!
