November/December Building Brief from Mrs. Scallon
The Building Brief
Keeping you in the know, now.
November/December 2017
A message from Mrs. Scallon…
Windsor High School students recently put on an awesome performance of Fiddler on the Roof. There is a song in the musical called “Sunrise, Sunset” that is a tribute to the passage of time, especially related to how fast our children grow up. It reminded me of how quickly this year is progressing; with such an early start date, we’re nearly at the halfway point now. Finals are December 6–8, and the second semester begins on December 11. Before we know it, seniors will be receiving their caps and gowns.
With every day that passes, the construction on our school progresses. The renovated English wing will open in early December. This means there will be not only more bright and energizing learning environments but also more space. The hallway partition that has been up since August will be taken down, making a wider pathway for foot traffic.
In what we are calling the “December Dance,” the English department will return to the main building, and the math department will move to the modulars while the math wing is being renovated. Additionally, the auditorium will be closed through February as it undergoes a major—and much needed—overhaul.
Just as we are all becoming accustomed to the construction, I want to acknowledge that it is still a challenge. I am so proud of our staff’s tremendous efforts to continue providing the highest-quality education for WHS students in the midst of everything. They are resilient and upbeat, as are our students. When 2018 arrives, so too will the light at the end of the tunnel. The academic wing renovations will near completion and the innovation center will start to take shape!
Students and staff alike are already enjoying brighter classrooms made possible by the installation of bigger windows and “zone lighting” that gives teachers control over the brightness in their rooms. Additionally, as we go into the new year, a new public announcement system is being installed, and teachers will start using lanyard microphones to ensure every seat is the best seat in the room!
As we approach the season of giving thanks, at WHS we are thankful for the positive benefits our students are already experiencing thanks to the investment our community has made in our school. In 2018, the WHS facility will be as awesome as the students and teachers in it!
