Teal Pumpkin Project
Putting a teal pumpkin on your doorstep means you have non-food treats available, such as glow sticks or small toys. This simple act promotes inclusion for trick-or-treaters with food allergies or other conditions.
- Provide non-food treats for trick-or-treaters
- Place a teal pumpkin in front of your home to indicate to passersby that you have non-food treats available
- Add your home to the Teal Pumpkin Project map
- Spread the word! Share the Teal Pumpkin Project with your friends and family

October 31 @ The Ranch
Dear Sunset Ranch Families,
Thursday, October 31st is Halloween. This year, the school is open to K-6 students wearing simple costumes to school on this day if they choose to do so. While Halloween is a special and exciting day for many students, it is also a regular, instructional day at school where students will be expected to fully participate in learning as well as P.E. and other routine school activities! In order to balance these two objectives we need students/parent to follow these rules in regards to costumes:
Costumes should be simple as to not be distracting or easily lost/damaged. Please consider that allowing your child to wear his/her costume to school may result in parts being lost or damaged during regular school activities (recess, etc.).
Masks and full facial makeup should not be worn to school. If they are, they will need to be removed.
Positive costumes are encouraged. Students can not wear costumes that are violent or gruesome (containing fake blood, gore, etc). This is not appropriate for the school environment and may frighten our smallest Coyotes.
Fake weapons such as guns, swords, or daggers may not be brought to school. If students have inappropriate costumes or props, they will be confiscated and will need to be picked up by a parent from school administration.
In terms of bringing food/treats to school, please talk directly with the classroom teacher about his/her preferences in this regard. We have many students with severe allergies that may be put at risk if unauthorized food/treats are brought to the classroom. Please be sure to consult with teachers and room parents who are aware of the health concerns in each class.
We will not be hosting a student costume parade at school on Halloween. However, we look forward to seeing all our spooky Coyotes march at our Annual Costume Parade to kick off our Fall Carnival at 5:15 p.m. next Friday, October 25th at Bolton Park!
Thank you for your support and cooperation. We are looking forward to a wonderful and safe celebration on 10/31!
Best Regards,
Melanie Patterson, Principal
Sunset Ranch Elementary School
