Parent Drop Off & Pick up

Dear MGMS Families,

As we head into winter break, I want to say again how thankful I am for your support as we work together to provide the best learning environment for your child here at school. Everyone has been working very hard to make this the best school year possible and it sure takes a village. I hope you enjoy the time with family and friends over break as it is well deserved. Happy holidays and happy new year!

I would also like to take this opportunity to share a few reminders about our parent drop off and pick up. As it continues to get colder, I am noticing an increase in the amount of students being dropped off and picked up each day. This adds to the already busy parking lot so your help in following the expectations of drop off and pick up will help tremendously. Here are a few reminders to make note of:

  • Only use the community gym parking lot for drop off and pick up each day. Do not drop off your student at the main/front door as this space is for vans and busses only unless you have an approved pass to use this zone.
  • Pull forward as far as you are able to allow more cars to pull in behind you.
  • Only drop off at the curb. Do NOT drop off or pick up your student in the parking lot and have them walk through the lot. This is very dangerous, especially under winter conditions.
  • Right turn only – I’ve noticed many more cars turning left into the parking lot. We are asking you to only take a right into the lot so please plan your route accordingly.
  • Be aware of our community neighborhood – Drop off and pick up times get busy so please be aware of our surrounding neighbors by driving carefully and being aware of any walkers in the area. We want to ensure everyone is safe during this time.

Thank you for your continued partnership and may you have an amazing winter break!

Patrick Smith

Principal, Maple Grove Middle School Mustangs

Winter Break Extended

The school year has again been a year like no other. It’s taken some time for both students and staff to adjust back to school in this challenging environment.

For the health and well being of all, winter break is being extended to a full two weeks and now includes December 20, 21 and 22 as non-school days.

As a result of the calendar change, additional modifications are needed to meet state learning requirements. The professional development days on Monday, January 31 and Monday, May 2 will now be online student instructional days. Attendance will be taken virtually, and students will be expected to work on assignments.

For those students that have a class that meets every other day, when we return on January 3 it will be a DAY 1.

Enjoy the additional days off.

Whether you can commit to a weekly volunteer opportunity, or occasionally, we appreciate your presence at school.

We have some upcoming events that we need help with. Please sign-up on the links below.

What To Do...

If your child is going to be late or absent from school, please call the school with the reason for the absence. The telephone call eliminates the need to send a note with your student when he/she returns to school. We would appreciate having the call between the hours of 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM. Excused absences consist of illness, medical appointments, and family emergency situations such as a funeral. Oversleeping, missing the bus, or skipping school are not excused and are considered truancy.

MGMS 24 Hour Attendance Line: 763-315-7603.

1. Send a note with your student in the morning

2. When the student gets to school they go to Student Services to get a white pass

3. At the stated time on the pass, your student leaves class and comes to the office with the white pass and signs out in the main office

4. The person picking up can wait in the car (very helpful on cold winter days)

If you didn't send a note, you will need to come in with a mask and your driver's license and we will call your student down when you arrive.

This procedure is in place to ensure student safety.
