Hello John Marshall Families!

We are excited to continue to learn how we can better meet student needs this year. As many families learned about during our Ice Cream Social, we are learning about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People through the use of Leader in Me. It is great to hear students and staff all using the language as we move around the school. We are excited to see how this continues to positively impact our Marshall community! Please keep asking your child(ren) how they are using the Habits each day!


Safety is of utmost concern for us at John Marshall. Please be aware of our drop off and pick-up procedures included in this newsletter. It is important not to do U-turns or park in unauthorized areas during drop off and pick-up for the safety of all students. Thank you for joining us in being diligent to promote safety for all.


As a reminder, if you need to communicate to your child about pick-up arrangements, please continue to contact our main office prior to 3:00pm. Teachers are working with students until the end of the day and may not catch messages on email or SeeSaw.

Marshall drop off/pick up traffic flow

1) Primary car drop off area is on Broadway. Please do not park here during drop-off and pick-up times.

2) Bus lane on Lamont. During drop-off/pick-up times, this area is for Buses only. Cars are not to use this lane at anytime during drop-off/pick-up.

3) Parking lot. If you need to leave your vehicle unattended during drop-off and pick-up times, please park in the parking lot.The parking lot is is one-way traffic.

Ice Cream Social

Students taught the new habits they have been learning about in school. Habit #1 Be Proactive. Habit #2 Begin with the end in mind. Habit #3 Put first things first. Habit #4 Think win-win. Habit #5 Seek first to understand then to be understood. Habit #6 Synergize. Habit #7 Sharpen the saw. Habit #8 Find your voice, and inspire others to find theirs.

Ice cream was enjoyed and fun was had.

Outdoor Assembly

Marshall had their first assembly for the school year. Highlighted in this assembly was a Minute to Win It for new Marshall staff. New staff were cheered on by students and staff to carry a spoon in their mouth with a marshmallow to a cup. Lots of fun was had on this beautiful fall day.

UPDATED WSD COVID-19 Protocols 2021-22

Good afternoon, Wausau School District Families:


As we move forward in the 2021-22 school year, we want to take this opportunity to share an update with you about some changes to the District’s COVID-19 mitigation strategies.


The Board approved two matrices, one for elementary schools and one for secondary schools, that are guidelines for analyzing case data. They are real tools that allow administrators, school staff, and nurses to collaborate around data and context to find the best actions to keep your students in school, in-person safely, and provide them with the highest quality education at the same time.


While you’ll notice differences between the elementary and secondary school matrices, the goal is the same: keeping your students safe while offering them the highest quality educational experiences at the same time.



Below is the elementary level matrix.

WSD Covid Guidelines 21-22

Students must stay home from school if they have the following symptoms.


One of these symptoms:

❏ New or worsening cough

❏ Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing

❏ New loss of smell or taste


Two or more of these symptoms:

❏ Fever over 100.4/Chills

❏ Diarrhea

❏ Sore throat

❏ Runny nose/congestion

❏ Headache

❏ Fatigue

❏ Nausea/vomiting

❏ Muscle/body aches


  • If a student has symptoms, it is recommended that they immediately be tested for COVID, regardless of vaccine status.

  • The student may return to school with proof of a negative PCR COVID test or an alternate diagnosis from a medical practitioner.

  • If parents choose not to have their child tested, the student is presumed positive and must stay home for 10 days, be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and have improvement of symptoms before returning to school.

  • If a student or anyone else living in the home tests positive, all students in the home (unless vaccinated and not showing symptoms) must quarantine for the 10 days of the positive person’s isolation PLUS an additional 10 days quarantine, a total of 20 days. If the positive person can isolate away from the students, the other students in the home must quarantine for 10 days from the last contact with the positive person.

  • Parents are asked to notify the school if a student later develops symptoms or tests positive for COVID.

  • If your child is identified as a close contact to someone outside the home, follow the directions from the health department.

iPad Insurance

Please remember, if you have indicated you wish to accept the WSD iPad insurance, but have not sent the $10 (per device) payment, please send cash or check (made out to WSD) to the school office. Just a reminder, if payment is not received or insurance is declined; families assume the full cost of any and all repairs caused by misuse, abuse, or accident.
